Freelance AI Trainer, British Sign Language (BSL)

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Engage with language models in real-world scenarios involving British Sign Language (BSL) communication.

• Assess advanced language models with theoretical inquiries related to signed language linguistics.

• Ensure linguistic precision and cultural relevance.

• Capture error traces that can be reproduced.

• Document instances of model failures.

• Propose enhancements for prompt engineering and evaluation metrics.

• Assist in training AI models by leveraging expertise in British Sign Language.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in British Sign Language.

• Deep understanding of Deaf culture.

• Familiarity with visual linguistics.

• Knowledge of BSL grammar and syntax.

• Understanding of non-manual markers.

• Awareness of fingerspelling.

• Knowledge of regional variations within BSL.

• Expertise in translating BSL to English.

• Experience with classifiers.

• Strong receptive and expressive skills in BSL.

• Understanding of facial expressions used in BSL.

• Knowledge of spatial grammar.

• Ability to communicate clearly and metacognitively.

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Deaf Studies, Sign Language Interpreting, Linguistics, or a related discipline is preferred.

• RID certification, teaching experience, or involvement in community interpreting projects is a plus.

• Contractor status requires the individual to provide a secure computer and high-speed internet connection.
