Founding Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and oversee scalable backend systems tailored for fintech and financial operations.

• Create services that support business accounts, payments, cards, foreign exchange, and multi-currency transactions.

• Develop resilient APIs and integrations with banking, payment, card, and financial infrastructure providers.

• Execute transaction workflows that encompass authorization, processing, settlement, failure handling, and reconciliation.

• Design systems focused on idempotency, retries, webhooks, transaction state management, and failure recovery.

• Construct and maintain financial ledgers, balances, transaction records, and reconciliation processes.

• Facilitate multi-currency financial operations, including currency conversion and cross-border transaction workflows.

• Create precise, consistent, and auditable financial data models and database architectures.

• Implement secure access controls, authentication, authorization, and safeguard sensitive financial data.

• Develop monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational tools for essential financial workflows.

• Integrate third-party financial APIs while addressing provider-specific behaviors, failures, rate limits, and inconsistencies.

• Enhance backend services and databases for optimal performance, scalability, reliability, and availability.

• Write clean, testable, maintainable, and production-ready code.

• Create unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for critical financial workflows.

• Diagnose production issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions.

• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Operations, Compliance, and external partners to deliver features from start to finish.

• Contribute to architectural decisions, technical documentation, engineering standards, and platform strategy.

• Identify opportunities for automating operational processes and enhancing system reliability.

• Take ownership of technical deliverables from initial design through deployment and production support.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong emphasis on backend development.

• Experience in building fintech, payments, banking, financial infrastructure, or other transaction-intensive systems.

• Deep understanding of backend architecture, distributed systems, APIs, databases, queues, and production infrastructure.

• Practical experience in integrating external payment, banking, card, foreign exchange, or financial service providers.

• Strong grasp of financial transaction concepts including ledgers, reconciliation, balances, settlements, transaction states, and auditability.

• Hands-on experience implementing idempotency, retries, webhooks, failure recovery, and transaction consistency.

• Proficient programming skills in a modern backend language such as TypeScript/Node.js, Java, Python, Go, or similar.

• Extensive experience with relational databases like PostgreSQL and caching technologies such as Redis.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms, APIs, queues, containers, and contemporary deployment practices.

• Strong knowledge of application security, data protection, access control, and secure API design.

• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, Git, monitoring, logging, and production operations.

• Excellent problem-solving and debugging abilities with a focus on reliability and data integrity.

• Capability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced, product-oriented environment.

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and making pragmatic architectural and engineering decisions.

• Experience with international, multi-currency, or cross-border financial products is a plus.
