Forensic Scientist – Nuclear Materials

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop complex single-turn prompts focused on nuclear materials and safeguards, categorized as benign, dual-use, or adversarial.

• Assess model outputs based on a specified policy standard.

• Evaluate whether the responses adequately addressed the potential for technical misuse.

• Create reference answers along with technical justifications clarifying the correct responses.

• Differentiate between standard professional inquiries and those that could lead to misuse.

• Provide written explanations that are accessible to non-specialist audiences.

• Engage in reading and writing about misuse scenarios for extended periods.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in characterizing actual nuclear material.

• Background in nuclear forensics casework or involvement in international exercises.

• Experience in sample characterization and attribution.

• Proficiency in radiochemical and mass-spectrometric analysis, inclusive of isotopics, age dating, impurity, and process signatures.

• Familiarity with detection and interdiction technologies, such as portal monitors, handheld identification, and search operations.

• Knowledge of material signature libraries, reference materials, and attribution methodologies.

• Experience in pre- or post-detonation forensics research at a national laboratory or agency.

• Ideally, experience in red-teaming.

• Strong capacity for technical writing.

• Previous technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience is highly valued.

• Submission of a writing sample or link is required.

• Must refrain from using classified or export-controlled information, NDA-protected materials, or content subject to prepublication review obligations.

• Must disclose any such obligations so that the work can be appropriately scoped.
