Forensic Scientist – Nuclear Materials

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Craft complex single-turn prompts regarding nuclear materials and safeguards, categorized as benign, dual-use, or adversarial.

• Assess model outputs according to a specified policy standard.

• Evaluate whether responses accurately address technical inquiries.

• Compose reference answers that clarify what constitutes a correct response and the underlying technical rationale.

• Create prompts that differentiate between legitimate professional inquiries and those seeking harmful information.

• Provide written explanations that are accessible to non-specialists.

• Analyze and document misuse scenarios within the field.

• Work exclusively with unclassified, non-export-controlled information that is free from NDA or prepublication review obligations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in characterizing actual nuclear material, encompassing detection, attribution, and analytical tasks that support defensible conclusions.

• Relevant experience in nuclear forensics casework or participation in international exercises.

• Proficiency in radiochemical and mass-spectrometric analysis, isotopic studies, age dating, and recognizing impurity and process signatures.

• Experience with detection and interdiction technologies, such as portal monitors, handheld identification tools, or search operations.

• Familiarity with material signature libraries, reference materials, and attribution methodologies.

• Background in pre- or post-detonation forensics research at a national laboratory or agency.

• Capability to differentiate between standard professional inquiries and potentially harmful requests.

• Excellent technical writing skills; every evaluation must include a rationale that is comprehensible to non-specialists.

• Previous technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience is highly regarded.

• Must refrain from using classified or export-controlled information, NDA-protected content, or materials subject to prepublication review.

• Willingness to engage in reading and writing about misuse scenarios over extended periods.

• Red-teaming experience is ideally beneficial.
