This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +3 more states.
• Support the creation of fire life safety (FLS) codes and standards analyses.
• Offer expertise on how codes and standards apply to FAA facilities, their missions, and specific technical challenges faced.
• Deliver FLS advice to the FAA concerning program and agency initiatives where the FLS program plays a role.
• Create technical guidance addressing design and construction issues.
• Assist in formulating standard specifications for installations at FAA facilities.
• Contribute to FLS program planning initiatives, prioritization, and consultation regarding program strategies and objectives.
• Write white papers, proposals, and analytical documents on the aforementioned topics for distribution to FLS stakeholders.
• Conduct thorough fire protection and life safety assessments of essential air traffic control facilities including airport traffic control towers (ATCT), terminal radar approach control (TRACON) facilities, air route traffic control centers (ARTCC), and various other facilities supporting the FAA’s air traffic control mission.
• Assess facility human element programs to ensure compliance with OSHA mandated Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Plans, fire drills, and the inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire protection and life safety systems.
• Coordinate with customers on specific dates, locations, and impacts to the facility.
• Develop and continuously update a schedule of Critical Risk Assessments (CRAs), including dates of visits, locations, current status of CRAs, assigned teams, and other pertinent information.
• Provide additional CRA support as needed by the AJW-23 Program Manager.
• A relevant Bachelor's Degree with 4+ years of applicable exempt experience, or a relevant Master's Degree with 2+ years of applicable exempt experience.
• Possession of a Professional Engineer License or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate.
• Strong understanding of applicable ICC and NFPA codes.
• Previous experience in developing or offering comprehensive consultation on FLS programs.
• Ability to create FLS designs for various critical FLS components and provide insightful feedback on FLS designs and installations.
• Previous experience in training on FLS concepts and code applications.
• Capability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
