Financial Counselor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.

📋 Description

• Assist patients with billing inquiries in person and via e-mail, fax, mail, and phone.

• Review patient bills and collect liability for upcoming procedures.

• Gather residual and overdue balances.

• Examine alternative benefit coverage options for medical and pharmaceutical services.

• Obtain authorizations and set up fee arrangements.

• Provide coverage at various locations as necessary.

• Act as a liaison between patients, providers, external departments, and responsible parties.

• Ensure charges are accurately applied and transactions are recorded and maintained correctly.

• Resolve account balances and discrepancies within designated timeframes.

• Offer timely estimates for upcoming procedures.

• Discuss patients' financial responsibilities and inform them about assistance options and financial alternatives.

• Deliver exceptional service and uphold patient satisfaction.

• Address patient concerns promptly, accurately, and efficiently.

• Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.

• Report any known or suspected unethical behavior and compliance, privacy, or safety issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.

• At least 1 year of experience in customer service, healthcare, or an office setting.

• Computer proficiency and dexterity for data entry and patient information retrieval.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficient with Windows-based applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), role-specific software, and keyboarding.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

• Capable of performing well in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.

• Ability to remain composed and professional in high-pressure situations involving patient financial and medical discussions.

• Independent decision-making skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.

• Reliable transportation, as travel to other facilities may be necessary.

• Must adhere to applicable federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
