Finance & Compliance Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +12 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee QuickBooks Online for the various independent entities of Red Wine & Blue, including a 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and Federal PAC.

• Handle cash receipts, disbursements, journal entries, donations, receipts, and pledges.

• Manage cash flow, forecasting, banking operations, and cultivate relationships with financial institutions.

• Lead the organizational budgeting process, including realignment and variance tracking.

• Prepare financial statements and General P&L reports categorized by class and location.

• Review and align financial data and budgets between Ramp and QuickBooks Online.

• Reconcile and allocate transactions and reimbursements for Ramp credit cards.

• Verify payroll filing accuracy through BambooHR.

• Administer state tax registrations and withholding setups for new states.

• Ensure compliance, audits, and reporting related to workers’ compensation.

• Reconcile payroll with the general ledger, incorporating journal entries and cost allocation.

• Ensure the accuracy of contractor 1099 forms.

• Conduct quarterly reviews of cost allocation and journal entries across three entities.

• Guarantee proper fund transfers and documentation.

• Monitor programmatic spending forecasts in collaboration with external legal counsel and the Chief of Staff.

• Coordinate compliance filings at the federal, state, and local levels with external consultants.

• Oversee the annual 990 tax return process.

• Manage the biannual external audit procedure.

• Develop and implement financial and procurement policies along with approval workflows.

• Administer QuickBooks Online and Ramp systems, including access permissions.

• Allocate and report on benefits expenses.

• Assist with benefits open enrollment and plan renewal from a budget and cost perspective.

• Provide financial modeling and data for multi-year strategic planning initiatives.

• Ensure compliance of grant spending with restricted fund terms and reporting requirements.

• Offer revenue and pledge projections to fundraising leadership.

• Prepare financial reports and documentation for fundraising proposals and grant reports.

• Support additional projects and responsibilities as necessary.

• Report to the Chief People Officer and have no supervisory responsibilities.

• Travel occasionally for in-person meetings and all-staff gatherings.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in finance/accounting, preferably within non-profit, advocacy, or multi-entity settings.

• Experience with QuickBooks Online is essential.

• Familiarity with Ramp is highly preferred.

• Knowledge of payroll administration, multi-state payroll tax compliance, and 1099 reporting is required.

• Preference for familiarity with 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), Federal PAC fund accounting, and cost allocation.

• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-experts.

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.

• Demonstrated integrity, trustworthiness, and reliability.

• Proficient in technology with a capability to adapt to new tools and platforms.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and job functions.

• Flexibility in handling ambiguous tasks and competing priorities.

• Capacity to prioritize tasks and plan work efficiently.

• Must reside in one of the 14 operating states or Washington, D.C.
