Field Service Welder, Mechanical Technician I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Conduct mechanical services, installation confirmations, system checkouts, startups, troubleshooting, repairs, welding, and fabrication on ANDRITZ equipment both at customer locations and in-house.

• Create, modify, repair, and reconstruct structural steel, mechanical parts, and customer-owned machinery.

• Examine, fit, align, assemble, and fix components utilizing blueprints, fabrication schematics, weld symbols, and technical specifications.

• Collaborate with technical staff and clients to coordinate field service and repair operations.

• Execute field welding, maintenance, and urgent repairs during installations, outages, startups, and service calls.

• Ensure that all work complies with company, customer, quality, and safety standards, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and hot work protocols.

• Maintain welding, fabrication, and service tools as well as organized workspaces.

• Generate service reports, repair documents, and supporting records for project monitoring and invoicing.

• Provide assistance with spare parts suggestions, technical support, inventory management, and repair services.

• Contribute to the training and development of service technicians.

• Carry out in-house repair tasks and new equipment assembly.

• Oversee rental/pilot units and assist with spare parts, equipment, repair orders, and test trials.

• Implement quality control measures and inspections on subcontractor and vendor items.

• Travel up to 85% annually.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.

• Capability to read and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications.

• Basic to proficient knowledge of MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), and Flux-Core welding techniques.

• Familiarity with metal cutting, fitting, grinding, and assembly practices.

• Mechanical and process understanding of Andritz-manufactured equipment.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel.

• Skillful in using hand tools, power tools, welding/fabrication equipment, and precision measuring instruments.

• Experience in performing welding repairs and modifying equipment within industrial settings.

• Ability to identify, procure, and manage materials, welding consumables, gases, and tools.

• Understanding of safe handling, storage, and transportation of compressed gas cylinders and welding tools in accordance with OSHA and company safety guidelines.

• Welding certifications (AWS or equivalent) are advantageous.

• Capability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.

• Ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders/scaffolding/elevated structures, and adapt to varying environmental conditions.

• Willingness to wear required PPE for extended durations.
