Field Service Engineer II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Carry out onsite installations, perform basic repairs, conduct preventive maintenance, execute calibrations, implement updates, and carry out operational qualifications on analytical and laboratory instruments.

• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, vacuum, software, and networking-related issues.

• Address customer service requests promptly and professionally.

• Record service activities, repairs, parts usage, and customer interactions in the company’s service systems.

• Communicate effectively with customers regarding service schedules, system statuses, and repair updates.

• Facilitate training for customers on instrument operation, maintenance, and best practices.

• Assist senior Field Service Engineers with complex installations, escalations, and major customer projects.

• Oversee assigned company tools, test equipment, service inventory, and vehicle stock.

• Travel daily within the designated territory to customer laboratories, research facilities, manufacturing sites, and educational institutions.

• Engage in technical training, certifications, and self-directed learning.

• Collaborate with Technical Support, Applications, Sales, Engineering, and fellow service engineers to solve customer issues.

• Adhere to company safety protocols while working with high-voltage systems, chemicals, and scientific equipment.

• Provide support for flexible scheduling and occasional emergency service coverage.

• Execute additional responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, or a related technical/scientific discipline.

• Prior field service experience is not mandatory; however, internship, co-op, military technical training, or laboratory instrumentation experience is preferred.

• Basic understanding of electronics, mechanics, vacuum systems, and troubleshooting for computer hardware/software.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Exceptional customer service and communication skills.

• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and engineering drawings.

• Proficient with Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, and foundational networking concepts.

• Strong organizational and time management capabilities.

• Capacity to work independently while effectively collaborating with team members.

• A valid driver’s license is required.

• Willingness to travel frequently within the assigned territory (50–75%).

• Experience with analytical instrumentation, laboratory equipment, or scientific settings is preferred.

• Familiarity with cleanroom, semiconductor, clinical, diagnostics, or research laboratory environments is a plus.

• Knowledge of high-voltage electronics, vacuum systems, spectroscopy, chromatography, microscopy, or imaging systems is advantageous.

• Proficiency in additional languages is beneficial.

• Preference for candidates located near Frederick, MD.

• Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.

• Flexibility to work overtime and adjusted schedules when needed.

• Capacity to work safely around chemicals, hazardous materials, and high-voltage systems.
