Field Service Engineer – Electron Microscopy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +6 more states.

📋 Description

• Install, maintain, repair, and calibrate electron microscopy systems, which include SEM, TEM, and FIB systems.

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks.

• Troubleshoot and diagnose problems related to electronics, vacuum systems, high-voltage components, and integrated software.

• Offer technical support to customers and collaborate with field service engineers.

• Cultivate customer relationships to enhance satisfaction and system uptime.

• Travel to customer locations for installations, repairs, and operational support of systems.

• Document service activities and produce detailed field service reports.

• Train and guide customers in system operation and maintenance.

• Adhere to safety protocols and quality standards within laboratory environments.

• Provide constructive feedback to engineering, product quality, and service leadership teams to foster product improvement.

• Assist in updating technical documentation and service procedures.

• At advanced levels, mentor junior engineers, lead intricate installations, and act as a technical escalation resource.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical field, or a comparable combination of education and technical experience with electronic systems.

• Field Service Engineer I: Requires 1+ years of hands-on technical experience in installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating advanced analytical equipment such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems.

• Field Service Engineer II: Requires 3+ years of hands-on experience in installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating complex analytical instrumentation.

• Field Service Engineer III: Requires 5+ years of experience in supporting sophisticated analytical systems and troubleshooting complex system-level issues.

• A valid driver’s license is required.

• Must be able to travel up to 75% within the assigned territory.

• Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in laboratory settings.

• Proficiency in English is mandatory.

• Hands-on experience with SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar advanced analytical systems is essential.

• Experience in diagnosing and repairing ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems is necessary.

• Familiarity with high voltage equipment is required.

• Strong skills in electronics and mechanical troubleshooting, including component-level diagnostics.

• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and system diagrams.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and service management software is needed.

• Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a field-based environment.

• Experience in documenting service activities and preparing detailed reports.

• Demonstrated commitment to safety protocols and quality standards.

• Proven track record of contributing to customer satisfaction objectives.
