Field Service Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Install, maintain, calibrate, and repair computer-controlled servo-hydraulic and electro-mechanical testing systems at client locations.

• Identify and resolve issues across controllers, hydraulic systems, data acquisition systems, sensors, transducers, fixtures, and grips.

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control-system problems through hands-on troubleshooting techniques.

• Conduct independent calibrations for designated customer systems.

• Oversee service documentation and manage assigned assets.

• Interact professionally with clients.

• Collaborate directly with client engineering and laboratory teams.

• Uphold technical training and adhere to MTS quality and safety protocols.

• Travel approximately 40–50% to client sites, mainly within Philadelphia, with occasional trips across the Northeast.

• Participate in onboarding and training sessions at MTS headquarters in Minnesota and regional training workshops.

⛳️ Requirements

• Practical technical experience gained through internships, co-ops, labs, maintenance roles, automation, robotics, manufacturing, or military service (typically 2–4 years combined) for early-career applicants.

• An associate degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field, or a 4-year Engineering Technology degree for early-career candidates.

• Alternatively, 5–10+ years of experience supporting electro-mechanical, hydraulic, or industrial equipment for seasoned candidates.

• Experience in field service, installation, system startup, or maintenance for experienced applicants.

• Proficiency with tools, wiring, mechanical assemblies, and technical systems.

• Ability to troubleshoot complex systems with minimal oversight for experienced candidates.

• Willingness to travel frequently, particularly during the initial year.

• Readiness to engage in structured training and mentorship during onboarding.

• Excellent communication skills and professional interaction with customers.

• A valid driver's license and the ability to meet company vehicle requirements.

• Capability to lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly and over 50 pounds occasionally.

• Ability to operate a motor vehicle as part of the remote working role.

• Competence in performing required physical activities, including pulling/pushing, carrying, working above shoulder level, walking, standing, sitting, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, and occasionally climbing.

• Required vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and the ability to identify defects or abnormalities.
