Field Service Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Install, maintain, calibrate, and repair computer-controlled servo-hydraulic and electro-mechanical testing systems at client locations.

• Identify issues across controllers, hydraulics, data acquisition systems, sensors, transducers, fixtures, and grips.

• Resolve mechanical, electrical, and control-system problems using practical diagnostic techniques.

• Independently carry out calibrations for designated customer systems.

• Manage service documentation and oversee assigned assets.

• Interact professionally with clients.

• Collaborate directly with customer engineering and lab teams.

• Ensure technical training and adherence to MTS quality and safety standards.

• Travel frequently to client locations, mainly within Philadelphia, with occasional trips across the Northeast.

• Participate in training sessions at MTS headquarters in Minnesota and regional classes during onboarding and training.

⛳️ Requirements

• Practical technical experience through internships, co-ops, labs, maintenance, automation, robotics, manufacturing, or military service, typically 2–4 years combined for early-career candidates.

• An associate degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Technology, or a similar field, or a 4-year Engineering Technology degree for early-career candidates.

• OR 5–10+ years of experience supporting electro-mechanical, hydraulic, or industrial equipment for seasoned candidates.

• Background in field service, installation, system startup, or maintenance for experienced candidates.

• Proficiency with tools, wiring, mechanical assemblies, and technical systems.

• Ability to manage customer relationships and troubleshoot complex systems with minimal oversight.

• Readiness to travel regularly, particularly during the first year.

• Openness to learning and adhering to structured training and mentorship programs.

• Excellent communication skills and professionalism in customer interactions.

• A valid driver’s license and ability to fulfill company vehicle requirements.

• Familiarity with hydraulics, instrumentation, sensors, controls, or automation is advantageous.

• Experience with calibration, diagnostics, or test equipment is beneficial.

• Practical mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting skills are useful.

• Knowledge of common electrical and mechanical diagnostic tools and test equipment is a plus.

• Capability to lift/move up to 50 pounds frequently and more than 50 pounds occasionally.

• Ability to operate a motor vehicle as part of the remote working position.

• Necessary vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
