Field Engineering Project Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Supervise and manage electrical utility projects, which include upgrades to transmission, distribution equipment, and relay protection. This involves analyzing feeder and transformer loads, submitting outage requests, coordinating area outages, and sequencing projects to ensure effective outage planning.

• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, starting from the initial evaluation and qualification of project opportunities to managing all communications, inquiries, and submissions. This also includes conducting site visits to outline project scopes and revisions, as well as assisting in or creating proposals.

• Familiarity with major test equipment software is required.

• Capable of performing an initial review of Protection & Control (P&C) drawings to identify errors and scope discrepancies, and be the main point of contact for technical inquiries related to designs, applications, or testing.

• Responsible for material coordination, crew organization (both P&C and construction), and providing oversight and support for the P&C crew. This also entails collaboration with operations on high-stakes projects with potential risks, while understanding and applying specific outage limitations.

• Ensure project success through detailed planning and adherence to compliance, which includes reviewing and briefing stakeholders on all project specifications, instructions, and contractual obligations, as well as managing bids.

• Propel project execution and resource coordination by overseeing schedules, working closely with the Operations Team to secure necessary equipment and labor, and providing assistance with onsite work and material procurement as required.

• Engage in regular Production/Client Meetings to ensure alignment and address ongoing project requirements.

• Cultivate strong relationships with customers, acting as a resource for inquiries and concerns. Serve as an advocate for client operations and the organization as a whole.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university or an Associates/AET degree with a focus on power systems is preferred.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in relay testing and commissioning in substations OR experience in designing protection & control schemes.

• EIT or PE certification is preferred but not mandatory.

• Proficient in reading and interpreting One Line, AC & DC Elementary, and Wiring diagrams.

• Strong computer skills, including familiarity with computer networks and Android/iPhone applications: proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, mapping drive letters for server connections, and configuring handheld device apps to connect to ‘The Cloud’ or other necessary locations.

• Demonstrates a strong work ethic and the ability to independently resolve project challenges.

• Pursues personal excellence through seeking out challenges and professional development, exhibiting high levels of expertise, and displaying commitment, self-confidence, and integrity.

• Capable of reading company manuals and reports, workplace rules, and procedures; able to communicate with poise and assurance, using correct English.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
