Executive Director, Warehouse Management Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Rhode Island.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the multi-site WMS implementation roadmap in alignment with corporate goals and timelines.

• Lead central governance forums and establish frameworks for decision-making, risk thresholds, and escalation procedures.

• Oversee design, configuration, testing, training, change management, deployment, and post-go-live support.

• Define stage-gate entry and exit criteria, ensuring deliverables, approvals, and overall readiness.

• Manage cutover and stage-gate decisions in collaboration with executive sponsors, site leadership, and the PMO.

• Create and uphold design standards, operational principles, standardized processes, configurations, and SOPs.

• Gather and share lessons learned along with reusable implementation assets.

• Evaluate site readiness and spearhead remediation efforts.

• Lead mock runs, pilot programs, and phased deployments.

• Set up hypercare teams, define roles, establish SLAs, and create escalation protocols.

• Monitor WMS health metrics, trend data, throughput, and quality metrics; implement corrective measures as needed.

• Transition sites to steady-state support with comprehensive playbooks and defined ownership.

• Manage program budgets, forecasts, variances, vendor statements of work, and change orders.

• Direct, develop, and recruit resources for the central team.

• Set performance expectations, facilitate capability building, and support succession planning.

• Educate DC leaders, promote WMS adoption, manage resistance, and formulate communication strategies.

• Deliver executive briefings and site-level huddles.

• Integrate efforts across Operations, IT, Engineering, Training/Change, and Finance.

• Align program dependencies and address cross-team obstacles.

• Collaborate with vendors and partners on configurations, integrations, and issue resolution.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree is required.

• Extensive operational knowledge of warehouse processes and WMS platforms.

• Proven experience leading Manhattan WMS implementations, upgrades, or enterprise-level deployments.

• Background in large-scale technology implementations.

• Proficiency in implementation planning, readiness assessments, and post-go-live stabilization.

• Experience with the Manhattan Warehouse Management System (WMS).

• Strong leadership skills and the ability to influence across multiple sites.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Capability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.

• Preferred: Experience leading enterprise-scale WMS transformations across various distribution centers.

• Preferred: Experience implementing and optimizing Manhattan WMS integrated with automation, labor management, transportation management, and inventory control systems.

• Preferred: Lean Six Sigma certification or demonstrated experience in continuous improvement.
