This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Report directly to the Vice President of Market Access & Patient Services.
• Lead a team of Market Access Directors in developing access and pull-through strategies.
• Act as the managed care and coverage representative for National and Regional accounts within a designated region of the United States.
• Drive the US Market Access strategy and manage business relationships within assigned geographies and accounts.
• Mentor and develop Market Access Directors to implement access and pull-through strategies across all regions.
• Collaborate with the VP of Market Access and a cross-functional team to formulate a comprehensive strategy.
• Create and present strategic account plans for the designated payer vertical.
• Prepare assigned accounts for upcoming product launches.
• Build and manage a high-performing team to ensure access to BioCryst products, maximizing patient access, revenue, and profitability.
• Propose and execute the US managed care marketing strategy for payer and distribution channels, including commercial insurers, PBMs, IHNs, specialty pharmacy and distribution, State Medicaid, Medicare, and Federal VA/DoD channels.
• Work with Patient Services and Value and Access teams to develop pull-through materials for US payers.
• Initiate and lead discussions with US payers to enhance awareness of BioCryst products.
• Monitor coverage and reimbursement challenges, government and payer policies, competitive pricing and contracting strategies, and obstacles to provider and patient access.
• Manage internal communications and engage Sales Leaders and stakeholders to identify opportunities and resolve compliant patient-access issues.
• Serve as a field expert on Market Access and fulfillment requirements for assigned accounts.
• Prepare business updates and Business Plans aligned with Market Access, Sales, Marketing, and individual objectives.
• Collaborate with the assigned Health Outcomes Payer Liaison on approved disease education messages and compliant inquiries.
• Act as a liaison or lead on specialized access projects with National PBMs/Payers, Regional Managed Care Professional Societies, and Managed Care Associations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Proven negotiation skills in a complex and increasingly competitive rare disease market.
• Demonstrated ability to utilize clinical and other value-related data to minimize contracting or eliminate the necessity of contracting with a payer.
• Bachelor’s degree; a master’s degree or higher is preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) in the biopharmaceutical industry, with at least 5-7 years in US market access operational and strategic roles.
• Experience in leading and managing a team of market access professionals is a plus (including regional or national account management leadership).
• Experience with specialty product launches in the US; rare disease therapeutic launch experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with national payers, regional payers, government accounts, and field reimbursement.
• Knowledge of specialty pharmacy, distribution, and hub services models with the ability to translate this understanding into a successful business model for an oral, rare disease medication.
• In-depth understanding and compliance with OIG and FDA regulations governing pharmaceutical marketing and the PhRMA code.
• Strong strategic thinking abilities, crafting innovative solutions, problem-solving, and prioritizing projects, along with excellent communication skills and a collaborative work style.
• Entrepreneurial mindset, financial acumen, and motivation in a start-up environment with the ability to navigate ambiguity.
