This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey, +1 more state.
• Effectively communicate the internal Cardiovascular Research pipeline priorities and ensure alignment of external search, evaluation, and triage activities with the strategies of BMS Research and the Enterprise Cardiovascular Therapeutic Area.
• Oversee the Cardiovascular triage process within Integrative Sciences.
• Identify, assess, and promote academic collaborations, biotech partnerships, platform technologies, and assets at the pre-IND or IND stage.
• Formulate and lead cross-functional diligence teams, providing scientific expertise during Business Development reviews and due diligence processes.
• Collaborate with Search & Evaluation and Business Development transaction leads to further prioritized opportunities.
• Coordinate with Research Finance to align, capture, and approve activities within Research budgets.
• Design and implement integrated corporate and academic external innovation strategies.
• Develop opportunities into collaboration plans outlining objectives, work plans, milestones, governance, decision points, and success metrics.
• Advise on collaboration frameworks and contract formulation in collaboration with Business Development, Legal, and IP departments.
• Participate in joint governance committees and oversight bodies with academic and industry collaborators.
• Act as a representative for Integrative Sciences to BMS organizations, regulatory agencies, investors, partners, and the scientific community.
• Relay external research activities and progress updates to internal stakeholders, partners, and leadership.
• Prepare progress reports and decision documentation for senior management.
• Deliver presentations and briefings regarding scientific and organizational initiatives.
• Exemplify scientific leadership, collaboration, and a comprehensive enterprise mindset across Research and Integrative Sciences.
• Engage in Site Leadership teams and potentially take on roles such as Board Observer or other governance positions for external cardiovascular companies.
• PhD or equivalent advanced scientific training in cardiovascular biology, cardiometabolic disease, or a related field pertinent to cardiovascular medicine.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in drug discovery and/or early development within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors.
• Profound, hands-on expertise in cardiovascular and cardiometabolic diseases.
• Solid understanding of the biology of cardiovascular and cardiometabolic diseases, including their interrelationship.
• Capability to evaluate external opportunities in relation to BMS Research priorities.
• Experience in assessing academic collaborations, biotech partnerships, platform technologies, and assets at the pre-IND or IND stage.
• Proven experience in formulating external collaboration plans that encompass scientific objectives, work plans, milestones, governance structures, decision points, and success metrics.
• Background in negotiating collaboration agreements with external partners.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Demonstrated success in advancing therapeutic programs to the IND stage or beyond.
• Experience working collaboratively across Research, Early Development, Business Development, Alliance Management, Legal, IP, Finance, Thematic Research Centers, and Therapeutic Area leadership, or similar structures.
• Strong aptitude for fostering productive relationships and maintaining scientifically focused, operationally accountable collaborations.
• Knowledge of financial, legal, contractual, and geographic factors impacting external research collaborations, including non-U.S. partnerships.
