This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of delivery, execution, and results across various engineering teams.
• Lead and mentor engineering managers.
• Create a high-performing engineering organization through accountability, operational rhythms, talent development, and ongoing improvement.
• Collaborate with product, architecture, data, security, and business stakeholders on strategies and roadmaps.
• Oversee backend data services, APIs, pipelines, and data products.
• Drive technical and architectural decision-making alongside architects and senior engineers.
• Establish and enhance engineering processes for planning, estimation, prioritization, execution, dependencies, and releases.
• Communicate portfolio plans, risks, milestones, status updates, and outcomes.
• Advocate for software development best practices, code quality, test automation, observability, incident management, and operational readiness.
• Ensure production reliability through effective monitoring, logging, alerting, and response strategies.
• Maintain data quality, security, privacy, governance, and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate on organizational planning, staffing, succession planning, and resource allocation.
• Guide leaders and teams through organizational transformations.
• Stay informed on industry trends and promote the adoption of beneficial emerging technologies.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, encompassing backend and data engineering.
• More than 4 years of experience in engineering leadership, including managing engineering managers and leading multiple teams or functional areas.
• Proven experience in building and scaling high-performing engineering organizations, including recruitment, coaching, performance management, and leadership development.
• Experience in leading intricate technical programs across multiple teams.
• Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js.
• Experience in designing and scaling data APIs, microservices, event-driven systems, and distributed architectures.
• Familiarity with data warehousing, data pipelines, data integration, and data product development.
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL technologies like PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and DynamoDB.
• Experience with AWS, Git, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, Lambda, SQS, and SNS.
• Experience in establishing unit, integration, end-to-end, load, and security testing strategies.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Strong operational leadership skills, including incident management, reliability practices, and service ownership.
• Ability to balance strategic thinking with practical technical judgment and execution.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
