
Engineering Manager, Transfer Explorer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the technical dimensions of the Transfer Explorer initiative
• Guarantee that the platform delivers an outstanding experience for data providers and student users
• Empower the engineering team to enhance productivity
• Direct the design and execution of Transfer Explorer, including the core platform as well as associated R&D or exploratory efforts
• Manage a growing team of engineers, which includes goal setting and performance reviews, time and expense oversight, mentorship, staff development, performance management, and recruitment
• Set the engineering team up for success through collaboration with designers, researchers, product managers, and project managers
• Provide technical guidance for scalable and sustainable data processing pipelines and user experiences, with a focus on security and observability
• Maintain relationships with technical vendors, including DXtera, overseeing contracts, deliverables, and integrations
• Investigate and foster partnerships and collaborations
• Engage in leadership teams, business and contingency planning, roadmapping, grant application and management, as well as exploring new partnerships
• Over 10 years of experience in developing and managing web-based software applications, including familiarity with cloud computing environments like AWS
• More than 3 years of experience and a proven talent for managing and developing software engineers
• Proven ability to devise technology-driven solutions that are both innovative and practical
• Experience in scaling solutions from prototypes to sustainable infrastructure, with insight into when and how to invest in varying levels of resilience and structure
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies, including lean-startup and design-thinking inspired methods that incorporate short product development cycles, business-hypothesis-driven experimentation, iterative product releases, and validated learning
• Experience in developing and architecting software across multiple components, including data pipelines
• Exceptional collaboration and communication skills
• Must be eligible to work and reside in the continental United States
