Senior Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the strategy and implementation for the customer-centric control plane experience across Crossplane, Upbound Crossplane, Upbound Marketplace, official providers and extensions, as well as partner integrations.

• Assist in defining and advancing the long-term vision for hosted control planes and the extensibility of the ecosystem.

• Ensure that Marketplace, UXP, APIs, and Extensions function together as a unified control plane experience.

• Influence how platform engineering teams construct infrastructure using Crossplane-powered abstractions.

• Promote reliability, scalability, and production-grade control planes at scale.

• Lead the strategy for Upbound Marketplace as the distribution layer for Crossplane providers, extensions, and control plane building blocks.

• Develop and enhance the provider ecosystem, which includes ISVs, cloud providers, and platform partners.

• Facilitate extension frameworks for customers and partners.

• Oversee managers and managers-of-managers across various teams.

• Expand the engineering organization structure to support product velocity and ecosystem growth.

• Implement operational rigor concerning roadmap planning, delivery predictability, uptime SLAs, and production excellence.

• Collaborate with Product, GTM, Alliances, and Customer Success to align ecosystem strategy with revenue objectives.

• Convert enterprise customer requirements into scalable control plane functionalities.

• Represent engineering in high-level executive discussions regarding ecosystem expansion and AI-native infrastructure.

⛳️ Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in engineering leadership, including managing managers.

• 5+ years of experience in building or scaling cloud-native, infrastructure, or platform engineering products.

• Profound knowledge of Kubernetes and the Cloud Native ecosystem.

• Experience in creating SaaS control planes or distributed systems at scale.

• Strong comprehension of APIs, SDKs, declarative systems, and extensibility frameworks.

• Proven track record in developing ecosystem-driven products (marketplaces, providers, plugins, or integrations).

• History of delivering reliable production services with robust uptime and performance standards.

• Capability to operate strategically while also engaging deeply in technical matters.
