This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the engineering team through regular one-on-ones, feedback sessions, performance evaluations, promotions, and challenging discussions.
• Take ownership of delivery by planning, defining scope, and ensuring the successful shipment of quality software in line with the roadmap.
• Influence product priorities, commitments, and team methodologies.
• Assist engineers in enhancing their skills in scoping, estimating, decision-making, and taking ownership of outcomes.
• Continue to write and deploy code to support critical technical decisions and tackle complex problems.
• Assess coding agents, showcase their effective usage, and guide the team in their application.
• Question architectural decisions, clarify trade-offs, and promote sustainable approaches.
• Recruit, set clear expectations, provide constructive feedback, foster growth, manage promotions, and handle exits when necessary.
• Eliminate friction, resolve recurring obstacles, and enhance AI tooling practices.
• Maintain close involvement with code and architecture without becoming a bottleneck for approvals.
• Lead engineering responses to escalations from customers, the services team, and open-source initiatives.
• Engage the appropriate stakeholders, make priority decisions, and tackle recurring issues.
• Transform managed-services experience into improved products rather than merely addressing one-off customer requests.
• A minimum of a few years of experience in managing engineering teams.
• Proven experience in hiring and developing talent, directly addressing underperformance, and making tough personnel decisions.
• Previous background as a strong engineer with solid technical judgment.
• Capability to evaluate architecture and trade-offs beyond personal coding experiences.
• Continues to build software and derives enjoyment from it.
• Proficient and effective use of coding agents, with demonstrable examples.
• Experience with shipping products in a startup environment and making decisions amid uncertainty.
• Skill in providing specific feedback and directly addressing issues.
• Ability to balance long-term product development with customer deadlines and negotiate achievable commitments.
