Engineering Manager – AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Lead and cultivate a team of software engineers focused on delivering AI-driven analytics and insight capabilities.

• Oversee execution throughout the software development lifecycle, encompassing requirements gathering, technical design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.

• Collaborate with Product, AI/ML, Data, and business stakeholders to convert strategy and customer requirements into engineering priorities and deliverables.

• Define architecture and engineering strategies for scalable backend services, APIs, data processing, and AI-enhanced applications.

• Ensure consistent delivery by managing priorities, dependencies, risks, and challenges.

• Guarantee quality, scalability, reliability, performance, security, observability, and maintainability.

• Implement software engineering practices, including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, documentation, monitoring, and readiness for production.

• Promote collaboration among software engineers, AI/ML engineers, data engineers, product managers, and other technical teams.

• Incorporate AI-generated insights and supporting services into production products and enhance customer experiences.

• Track team and system performance while driving continuous improvement.

• Set objectives and expectations, offering coaching, feedback, and performance management.

• Assist engineers in their professional development and career advancement.

• Recruit, interview, onboard, and retain engineering talent.

• Foster an inclusive and accountable team culture.

• Stay informed about advancements in AI, analytics, data platforms, and software engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 8 years of professional software development experience, including leadership or management of software engineers.

• Proven experience leading engineering teams that develop and operate production software.

• Strong technical grounding in backend software development, APIs, distributed systems, cloud architectures, and contemporary software engineering practices.

• Experience managing the software development process through its entire lifecycle.

• Capability to manage priorities, dependencies, risks, and delivery across intricate technical projects.

• Experience in setting goals, providing feedback, coaching engineers, and facilitating individual performance and career growth.

• Skilled in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding software engineering talent.

• Ability to effectively partner with Product Management and translate product and business goals into engineering plans.

• Knowledge of software quality, testing, CI/CD, observability, reliability, and operational excellence.

• Familiarity with AWS or Azure and modern cloud-based application architectures.

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

• Experience with Agile development methodologies and frameworks.
