This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take charge of the engineering roadmap for Upstart's marketplace simulation platform.
• Determine the next teams and use cases that the platform will support.
• Guide, mentor, and develop engineers working with distributed services, offline data pipelines, and large-scale computing.
• Enhance the reliability and accuracy of simulations used for launch decisions.
• Implement automated checks to identify discrepancies between simulated and production outcomes.
• Lower simulation costs through strategic architecture and computing decisions.
• Broaden simulation coverage across the lending funnel and new loan products.
• Collaborate with teams responsible for pricing and decision-making logic.
• Transform recurring inquiries from machine learning, analytics, and capital markets partners into self-service simulation workflows.
• Work in partnership with machine learning, pricing, product, analytics, and infrastructure teams.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Over 8 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in an engineering management role.
• Proven experience in leading engineering teams that build and maintain backend platforms or distributed systems in a production environment.
• Experience in delivering platform or infrastructure initiatives that span multiple teams.
• Proficient in some or many of the following: Python, Kotlin, AWS, Kubernetes, Databricks, Spark.
• Availability during East/West coast time zones.
• Preferred: familiarity with simulation, backtesting, experimentation, or offline model evaluation systems.
• Preferred: experience supporting machine learning teams or managing MLOps infrastructure.
• Preferred: understanding of lending, pricing, credit risk, or marketplace economics.
• Preferred: capability to optimize compute costs and efficiency.
• Preferred: experience in creating shared platforms with stable interfaces.
• Preferred: history of developing senior engineers and nurturing emerging engineering leaders.
