Engineering Manager II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the high-level architecture and scaling decisions for essential Phone platform components, which encompass CPaaS abstractions, provider adapters, and shared messaging/voice APIs that support billions of monthly events.

• Manage the Phone Billing process from start to finish, including usage metering, rating, reserve/commit lifecycle, idempotency, reconciliation, and audit trails for both Phone and WhatsApp channels.

• Spearhead the transformation of Trust & Compliance systems into a configuration-driven, rules-based platform.

• Engage directly with technologies such as NestJS, Firestore, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, queuing systems, data warehousing systems, and service mesh-based microservices.

• Lead initiatives that enhance reliability, latency, and throughput across high-concurrency APIs and workflows.

• Promote observability and resilience through effective monitoring, alerting, and incident response strategies, including financial invariants.

• Utilize LLMs and AI tools to write, refactor, test, and debug code while establishing reliability guardrails.

• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, security, finance, and legal teams to ensure data integrity, access control, and compliance.

• Mentor engineering managers and senior engineers, cultivate the leadership pipeline, strategize succession planning, and elevate hiring standards.

• Engage in design reviews, in-depth analyses, and participate in on-call rotations.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 9 years of backend engineering experience, including over 2 years in a leadership role.

• Demonstrated success in designing fault-tolerant systems that operate at the scale of billions of hits or events.

• Extensive knowledge in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous job processing.

• Experience in developing correctness-critical metering, ledger, billing, payment, or similar transactional systems.

• Solid understanding of idempotency, exactly-once semantics, and reconciliation processes.

• Proven experience in optimizing availability, performance, and reliability under high load conditions.

• Strong background in relational and NoSQL data models, particularly with complex transactional data.

• Experience in designing policy- or rules-driven systems that adapt to external requirements.

• Familiar with monitoring, SLOs, and root-cause analysis in a production environment.

• Knowledge of hallucination mitigation strategies, including code constraints, test scaffolding, embeddings, and context injection.

• Exceptional communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

• Practical, hands-on leadership that balances long-term vision with iterative execution.

• Preferred: experience with usage-based billing or metering engines, telecom trust and compliance frameworks, provider-agnostic integration layers, AI tools, communication APIs, and contributions to open-source or engineering platforms.
