Engineering Manager, Governance & Access

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Lead and expand the Governance & Access team.

• Own the strategic roadmap for governance, identity and access management, roles and permissions, as well as related compliance and security functionalities.

• Define the extension of these capabilities to agents operating on Render, in addition to human users.

• Collaborate with dedicated product and design partners to ensure the roadmap aligns with customer and platform requirements.

• Establish a robust hiring and interview process as the team grows.

• Make critical technical and architectural decisions regarding access, identity, and governance systems.

• Mentor and develop engineers through performance management and career progression.

• Coordinate with the adjacent Security team and the broader Growth and Expansion organization.

• Strike a balance between security, usability, and speed, making pragmatic choices regarding guarantees and iterations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in people leadership.

• Comfort in navigating ambiguity, with the adaptability to evolve as the team's scope changes.

• Experience in building and scaling a team from its inception.

• Demonstrated success in managing and developing engineers, including hiring and performance management.

• Ability to closely collaborate with product and design teams without needing to fulfill those roles personally.

• Familiarity with security, governance, or access management (IAM, RBAC, compliance) is a plus.

• Exposure to developing for AI agents or agentic systems is a plus.

• Experience managing senior (IC5-level) engineers is a plus.

• Background in developer platforms or B2B SaaS products is a plus.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
