This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Co-manage an autonomous engineering team in partnership with a Product Manager
• Foster clarity, consistency, and momentum within the team
• Advocate for the team's interests to senior leadership
• Serve as a liaison between the team and business stakeholders
• Accept accountability for technical decisions and alignment with the company's technical strategy
• Identify and enhance engineering practices
• Set team objectives and lead prioritization efforts
• Implement practices to fulfill security and operational service level objectives (SLOs)
• Organize organization-wide on-call coverage
• Conduct regular reviews of metrics related to coverage and performance
• Establish OKRs in collaboration with the Product Manager and team
• Recognize and address risks and obstacles
• Assess and enhance team performance and delivery predictability
• Report progress regarding OKRs, KPIs, and milestones
• Co-facilitate annual and quarterly planning for the squad
• Staff the team with necessary technical expertise and recruit as required
• Onboard, train, develop, and mentor direct reports
• Engage in performance calibration and promotion evaluations
• Relay company, department, and pillar strategies to the team
• Provide business insights and context to stakeholders
• Cultivate a positive team culture and resolve interpersonal conflicts
• Inform the team about organizational changes
• Collaborate with UX, Data, and other cross-functional partners
• Ensure operational and capital expenditures align with budgetary constraints
• Familiarity with core technology stack: gRPC, GraphQL, React, Kafka, Docker, and Kubernetes
• Experience with Go is preferred but not mandatory
• Proven experience leading technical design processes and facilitating discussions
• Capability to represent the team in cross-functional technical dialogues
• Ability to drive technical decisions toward clear, documented outcomes
• Experience in validating designs and architectures against real-world edge cases and domain variations
• Ownership of technical decisions that align with product and engineering strategies
• Strong grasp of engineering best practices
• Practical experience with AI development tools
• Experience in defining team objectives and leading prioritization
• Collaborative experience with Product Managers to establish OKRs aligned with company objectives
• Ability to co-facilitate annual and quarterly planning sessions
• Experience in early identification and mitigation of risks
• Proven track record of improving delivery predictability
• Knowledge of identifying security and SLO practices
• Ability to drive operational excellence and lead metrics reviews
• Experience managing a team of engineers
• Demonstrated ability to onboard, train, develop, and mentor team members
• Experience participating in performance calibration and promotion evaluations
• Intermediate understanding of customer and market insights
• Skill in communicating strategy to the team
• Experience building deep domain knowledge beyond the standard processes
• Ability to recognize ambiguity or gaps in requirements and designs
• Experience with complex, multi-variant domains such as billing, pricing, identity, or claims
• Proven ability to foster healthy team dynamics and resolve interpersonal conflicts
• Capability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional colleagues
