Engineering Manager – Building Automation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the principal hardware engineering authority for the Building Automation division.

• Develop, uphold, and enhance engineering standards, design methodologies, workflows, and expectations for deliverables.

• Offer technical guidance on DDC/Niagara control systems, industrial control panels, field integration, EPMS integrations, and HVAC solutions.

• Oversee project initiation, technical strategy formulation, review frameworks, resource allocation, risk assessment, and quality management.

• Assist in pioneering programs, establishing new client standards, and navigating complex delivery frameworks.

• Ensure responsibility for the quality, uniformity, and thoroughness of hardware engineering outputs.

• Define and coordinate the execution of quality-control protocols and technical evaluations.

• Allocate engineering resources based on project intricacies, client stipulations, timelines, and personnel development needs.

• Collaborate on recruitment, staffing strategies, organizational planning, and capability enhancement.

• Cultivate technical leaders, set training priorities, and enhance departmental capabilities via mentorship and standardization efforts.

• Aid business development and preconstruction with technical insights regarding control architecture, engineering risks, staffing, and delivery methods.

• Engage in client-facing discussions for key pursuits and strategic initiatives.

• Coordinate with project management, construction, BIM/VDC, procurement, commissioning, software teams, executive leadership, clients, vendors, and strategic partners.

• Relay engineering risks, quality issues, staffing requirements, and technical priorities across the organization.

• Complete assigned tasks and deliverables punctually and within budget.

• Undertake other related responsibilities as needed.


⛳️ Requirements

• In-depth expertise in DDC and Niagara systems for Building Automation applications.

• Profound knowledge of BAS and EPMS hardware engineering within complex, mission-critical environments.

• Extensive expertise in the design of industrial control panels, including component selection, layout, integration, and constructability.

• Advanced skills in establishing and enforcing engineering standards, review processes, and quality expectations.

• Proven ability to lead engineering teams in delivering intricate control-system projects.

• Advanced skills in resource allocation and matching technical talent.

• Capability to guide clients through BAS/EPMS designs, standards, options, requirements, and trade-offs.

• Ability to assess first-of-a-kind requirements and develop risk-mitigation engineering strategies.

• Familiarity with construction design processes, stakeholders, deliverables, and mission-critical workflows.

• Knowledge of data-center HVAC applications, chilled-water systems, heat rejection, airside systems, and control strategies.

• Understanding of instrumentation, sensors, actuators, valves, and field devices.

• Proficient in control-system networking, including addressing, VLANs, LANs, switches, routers, firewalls, and IT/OT interfaces.

• Knowledgeable in BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, MQTT, and related integrations.

• Acquainted with EPMS integration and the relationships among BAS, PLC, SCADA, and power monitoring.

• Awareness of applicable codes, safety standards, and energy guidelines.

• Proficient in Revit and AutoCAD.

• Skilled in using Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.

• Ability to identify organizational capability gaps and implement enhancements in staffing, processes, and training.

• Capability to mentor Level 5 lead engineers and cultivate technical leadership.

• Effective communication skills, both written and oral, with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to engage directly with clients in strategic and high-visibility discussions.

• Capacity to work effectively in a remote setting.

• Proficiency in leveraging AI and emerging technologies to enhance workflows, quality, and engineering operations.

• Commitment to following company and site safety protocols.

• Ability to perform well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

• Capability to achieve NFPA70E and/or OSHA training certification if necessary.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, or a related field, or eight years of hands-on controls infrastructure experience.

• At least ten years of additional experience in BAS, EPMS, DDC, and/or Niagara controls engineering.

• Significant experience in leading engineering execution for large-scale mission-critical, industrial, or hyperscale data-center projects.

• At least half of the experience should be in mission-critical or other Building Automation sectors.

• Experience in controls design and design project management.

• Willingness to travel up to 15%, potentially to any or all 50 U.S. states.

• Valid REAL ID or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport, for business air travel beginning May 7, 2025.
