This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Take ownership of engineering design packages that transition qualified sites to permit-ready status for EV charging, battery energy storage (BESS), and edge compute projects.
• Create and review design packages from conceptual stages through to construction.
• Provide functional leadership to Highland’s external engineering partners.
• Act as the technical authority on utility and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.
• Carry 30%, Issued-for-Permit (IFP), and permit application packages to build-ready status.
• Develop project-specific conceptual and schematic design packages.
• Review and approve conceptual, schematic, development, permit, and construction design packages.
• Solicit and respond to design inquiries from customers, consultants, contractors, utilities, and permitting authorities.
• Direct and quality-check external engineering partners to ensure design packages adhere to an aggressive portfolio-wide timeline.
• Ensure compliance with engineering and design specifications, best practices, and Highland package content and structure.
• Interpret technical requirements from utilities and AHJs to ensure compliant designs.
• Assist in the development of a repository for utility and AHJ design requirements.
• Aid in the evaluation and selection of contractor proposals.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a minimum of 8 years of directly related professional experience.
• 3 to 5+ years of experience in project-based design management, preferably in renewable energy, EV charging infrastructure, or power grids.
• At least 2 years of experience in developing and managing construction project design specifications.
• 3+ years of experience managing third-party engineering consultants.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience creating, editing, and commenting using CAD tools, with proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Preferred 1+ years of design experience in EV charging infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with project management and review software such as Procore and Bluebeam is preferred.
