Electrical Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Act as a Subject Matter Expert, offering professional electrical engineering and technical consulting assistance to the Department of Veterans Affairs, CFM, and VHA.

• Assist in VA design, construction, maintenance, facilities, and programmatic efforts across a variety of projects.

• Assess electrical engineering design packages, drawings, specifications, calculations, studies, and technical submissions.

• Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA standards, VA Design Guides, VA criteria, and federal healthcare facility regulations.

• Review systems related to electrical power distribution, emergency power, UPS, generators, lighting, grounding and bonding, life-safety, telecommunications, signal, and security.

• Conduct or assess load studies, short-circuit analyses, arc-flash assessments, equipment sizing, capacity evaluations, and infrastructure condition evaluations.

• Identify deficiencies and risks, providing recommendations for corrective actions, upgrades, replacements, and mitigations.

• Evaluate designs for constructability, technical precision, completeness, coordination, and adherence to codes.

• Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, contractor proposals, modifications, technical studies, and calculations.

• Offer technical support across design development, construction, commissioning, acceptance, and project closeout.

• Perform site visits, field investigations, inspections, system assessments, and evaluations at VA facilities.

• Record field conditions and deficiencies, preparing written technical findings and recommendations.

• Engage in project meetings, design reviews, construction coordination, issue-resolution discussions, Value Management studies, and Post-Occupancy Evaluations.

• Collaborate with CFM, VHA, architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.

• Prepare technical memoranda, engineering evaluations, studies, analyses, reports, recommendations, and decision-support documentation.

• Assist with VA standards, specifications, deviation requests, infrastructure prioritization, and project issue tracking.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution of higher education.

• Current professional licensure relevant to the Electrical Engineering field.

• At least six (6) years of combined experience in electrical engineering design and construction.

• Capacity to comprehend, interpret, and apply local, state, and federal jurisdictional requirements along with project-specific criteria.

• Exceptional technical, verbal, written, and professional communication skills.

• Strong proficiency in computer and software applications.

• Capability to independently analyze technical information and convey defensible engineering findings and recommendations.

• Ability to juggle multiple projects, assignments, priorities, and deadlines in a remote consulting setting.

• Skill in collaborating within multidisciplinary engineering, construction, healthcare, and project management teams.

• Ability to meet applicable Department of Veterans Affairs personnel security, system access, and training requirements.

• Completion of the necessary background investigation.

• Eligibility to obtain and retain a VA Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card when necessary.

• Adherence to VA information security and privacy standards.

• Completion of VA Cyber Security Awareness Training and VA Privacy Awareness Training.

• Ability to undergo training for relevant VA administrative systems, including TRIRIGA if needed.

• Capability to safely carry out inspections and field verification tasks in active construction and healthcare settings.

• Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods, navigate construction and facility environments, climb stairs and ladders, traverse uneven terrain, and utilize required PPE.

• Compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations, as well as OSHA and/or EM 385-1-1 standards.
