Senior Manager – Electrical Engineering, Gas

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.

📋 Description

• Act as the engineering representative for the company throughout the entire process of gas generation projects, from initial conception to the completion of construction.

• Assist in defining the engineering and business strategies for the company's gas generation sector.

• Ensure that the final engineering outcomes align with client requirements for reliability, operability, and constructability.

• Collaborate with interconnecting utilities, generator suppliers, and providers of balance of plant equipment.

• Grasp the design criteria of clients and keep abreast of evolving design trends within the energy market related to gas generation facilities.

• Coordinate and support engineering initiatives, detailed planning, and the integration of technical activities from both clients and the company.

• Create and promote safety standards for the gas generation engineering program.

• Ensure that projects meet relevant industry safety regulations, including NESC, NEC, and NFPA standards.

• Conduct root cause analyses for engineering and electrical safety concerns.

• Develop and implement policies, standards, procedures, and electrical design foundations for program management.

• Oversee the electrical design foundations for power blocks, transformers, switchgear, generator protection, grounding, cabling, and lighting.

• Manage the electrical interface design for balance of plant equipment and integration with the plant control system.

• Ensure that electrical studies are properly scoped, executed, and reconciled, including load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, grounding, motor starting, and generator interconnection studies.

• Assess technologies, resource requirements, market trends, project viability, economic evaluations, and value engineering aspects.

• Maintain libraries of design basis documents and ensure that procurement managers have up-to-date design basis information.

• Support engineering-led reviews of scopes for owners, contractors, suppliers, and the company.

• Assist in constructability reviews of power block layouts and modular or pre-assembled systems.

• Provide support for plant startup, initial fire, synchronization, performance testing, and commissioning design specifications.

• Serve as the escalation point for electrical commissioning challenges and witness testing for utility interconnections.

• Lead and manage engineering staff while facilitating necessary meetings, presentations, and technical discussions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

• Over 5 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering within the gas power generation sector.

• At least two years of experience in a leadership role.

• A registered Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly preferred.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).

• Willingness to travel up to 25%, with potential fluctuations based on project needs.

• Knowledge of reciprocating engines and aeroderivative gas turbine generating equipment, along with associated balance of plant equipment.

• Familiarity with substation, generator interconnection, and both overhead and underground construction practices.

• Understanding of civil, mechanical, and electrical power engineering principles.

• Proficient with computer and analytical tools used for equipment sizing, load flow analysis, protection, and power quality evaluation.

• Knowledge of NEC, NESC, NFPA, and IEEE standards, as well as utility interconnection regulations.

• Ability to influence and motivate groups towards shared goals.

• Strong oral, written, listening, and presentation skills.
