Educator – Motahkomikuk

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maine.

📋 Description

• Design and execute activities focused on youth engagement, substance use prevention, suicide prevention, and leadership development.

• Integrate cultural and traditional knowledge into all programming efforts.

• Equip youth to effectively use their voices to influence their communities.

• Foster social and emotional skills, youth empowerment, and the expression of youth perspectives.

• Ensure a fun and safe atmosphere where young individuals cultivate pride, optimism, and a sense of belonging.

• Work together with Kcitpahsuwet educators to create outreach initiatives for youth residing outside the community.

• Engage with Tribal Departments, youth programs, schools, caregivers, and youth to create inclusive programming.

• Develop and deliver training sessions for middle and high school students as well as youth-serving partners.

• Implement strategies for substance use prevention within youth programming.

• Organize and support Youth Councils, focusing on recruitment, promotion, evaluation, relationship building, and providing support to youth leaders.

• Identify programming options to fulfill grant requirements and collaborate with the Kcitpahsuwet Manager to develop new initiatives.

• Plan and execute youth gatherings and community events.

• Contribute to online presence through website and social media efforts and participate in outreach initiatives.

• Complete necessary WPHW training and obtain required certifications.

• Maintain ongoing communication with the supervisor through various tools such as email, calls/texts, Microsoft Teams, calendars, and others.

• Attend staff meetings and weekly check-ins.

• Ensure timely completion of reporting obligations.

• Engage in community-specific needs assessments.

• Collaborate with WPHW divisions to promote continuous quality improvement.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A university degree or college diploma in public health, health, education, or a related field, accompanied by two years of relevant experience; OR four years of experience in public health, health, education, youth-serving profession, or a related field.

• Proven experience working with youth.

• Knowledge of social and emotional development principles.

• A willingness and capability to develop inclusive programming and effectively apply trauma-informed approaches.

• Experience collaborating with Tribal communities and within school environments.

• An eagerness to learn and facilitate adventure-based activities.

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Competence in working effectively as part of a team as well as independently.

• Willingness to travel, including some overnight stays for training, youth retreats, and events.

• Must possess a valid Maine Driver’s License, be insurable under the organization’s auto insurance policy, and have access to reliable transportation.

• All candidates must successfully pass a criminal background check.

• Flexibility to work varying hours, including evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts.

• Capable of lifting and carrying up to fifty pounds regularly.
