This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Respond to organ donor referrals from local hospitals.
• Assess potential organ donors and oversee the medical management of consented donors in the ICU.
• Allocate organs in accordance with UNOS/OPTN policies and procedures.
• Coordinate the recovery of organs and tissues from prospective donors.
• Gather initial referral data and organ offers from other OPOs for patients awaiting transplants locally.
• Collaborate with hospital ICU care teams to manage donors in compliance with OPTN/UNOS and FLDRN protocols.
• Screen donor referrals and travel to donor hospitals for evaluation and assessment.
• Establish medical eligibility for organ and tissue donation via laboratory tests, medical record assessments, and physical examinations.
• Complete authorization documents and conduct Donor Risk Assessment Interviews.
• Provide information regarding donor organ function to designated transplant centers based on the OPTN/UNOS match run list.
• Organize ground and air transportation for both local and visiting surgical teams.
• Schedule operating room times and inform preservation teams accordingly.
• Draft operative notes and medical examiner documentation.
• Coordinate additional services, including medical examiners, coroners, and pathologists.
• Accurately and promptly complete FLDRN paperwork and iTransplant information.
• Address documentation issues identified by quality assurance for post-donor follow-up.
• Participate in clinical and joint staff meetings.
• Carry out other assigned responsibilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Physician’s Assistant, Allied Healthcare Provider, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in ICU, pre-hospital, or Emergency Room settings, including roles as an Allied Healthcare Provider (RN, LPN, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist, etc.).
• Capability to manage intricate tasks and coordinate several time-sensitive obligations.
• Availability for on-call duty 15 days per month, which includes 2 weekends.
• Certification as a Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) from the American Board for Transplant Certification (ATBC) is required within 2 years.
• Preferred qualifications include critical care experience, ACLS, and TNCC certifications.
• Regular full-time employment.
• 40 scheduled hours per week.
• Remote work option available in New York.
• On-call schedule of 15 days per month, including 2 weekends.
