Distributed Systems Engineer – Data Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop large-scale, real-time services and applications utilizing extensive datasets for internal APIs and external applications.

• Create tools, libraries, frameworks, and services that support security, research, and data platform projects.

• Transform prototypes into reliable internal tools, services, or platform functionalities.

• Engage in planning and technical discussions with engineering and product teams.

• Design and maintain data pipelines, messaging systems, databases, caching layers, and services on cloud or on-premises infrastructure.

• Collaborate with Machine Learning Engineers and Security Researchers on solutions that impact security outcomes.

• Construct highly available and scalable, data-driven services for Censys’s Internet Map Connections team.

• Assist in attributing ownership to Internet assets and identifying relationships among them.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering focused on building distributed systems.

• Proficiency in object-oriented programming; Censys primarily utilizes Go.

• Experience with at least one cloud service provider, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Familiarity with message queue technologies, including AWS Kinesis, Google Pub/Sub, or Kafka.

• Experience working with databases like BigTable, Cloud Spanner, HBase, or Cassandra.

• Knowledge of scalability, fault tolerance, and reliability principles.

• Understanding of AI applications.

• Capability to write clear, testable, and maintainable code.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and product managers.

• Willingness to responsibly utilize AI to enhance efficiency and impact.

• Familiarity with gRPC or REST is advantageous.

• Knowledge of data serialization technologies such as Protobuf or MessagePack is beneficial.

• Experience with containerized services in Kubernetes is a plus.

• Understanding of Internet functionality and how machines and services communicate using protocols and standards is a plus.

• Security domain knowledge is a bonus.
