Senior Software Engineer, Blockchain Platform Nodes

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Become a member of the CB Node team within Coinbase’s Platform organization.

• Manage and enhance blockchain nodes that support Coinbase assets across 55 different protocols, including Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Solana.

• Conduct comprehensive performance analysis and optimization of the blockchain node stack.

• Identify the root causes of resource consumption and implement system-level solutions that lower infrastructure costs while ensuring reliability SLOs.

• Develop observability, health-check, and automated failover functionalities for blockchain nodes.

• Lead right-sizing initiatives across the node fleet through workload profiling and capacity modeling.

• Collaborate with protocol integration engineers, wallet teams, and indexer teams to enhance platform-wide performance.

• Establish and execute SLOs and SLIs for node services.

• Assist in protocol upgrades and node operations, ensuring resource efficiency and performing regression testing of blockchain versions prior to production deployment.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on systems-level performance analysis, profiling, and optimization of production infrastructure.

• Practical experience in operating distributed systems at scale, including the diagnosis of resource bottlenecks, tuning service performance, and managing capacity across varied workloads.

• Expertise in backend programming (Go is preferred) along with proficiency in systems tools for profiling, tracing, and observability, such as pprof, Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana.

• Proven history of reducing infrastructure costs through engineering optimization, with quantifiable results.

• Experience with blockchain nodes, consensus protocols, or crypto infrastructure is highly preferred.

• Understanding of how different protocols perform under load and during upgrades.

• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight is essential.
