This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Guide and develop underwriters to enhance their technical skills, judgment, and consistency.
• Create, improve, and implement underwriting training programs.
• Uphold underwriting standards, documentation requirements, and governance practices.
• Assist the Associate (VP) Chief Underwriter in executing the underwriting strategy, governance criteria, and policy modifications.
• Engage in underwriting governance initiatives, forums, quality reviews, and auditing processes.
• Analyze cases and outcomes to pinpoint trends and areas for improvement.
• Address complex underwriting challenges and systemic issues, providing insights and recommendations for resolution.
• Take part in underwriting projects focusing on process enhancements, technology integration, and vendor solution deployment.
• Aid in modernization efforts by facilitating the adoption of new tools, automation, and improved workflows for underwriters.
• Work collaboratively with Medical, Actuarial, Product, Reinsurance, Distribution, Compliance, and Operations teams.
• Promote the responsible use of AI and advanced analytics through training, documentation standards, and quality oversight.
• Act as a senior underwriting subject matter expert and a point of escalation for complex risk evaluations.
• Evaluate referrals and make underwriting decisions and signatures within the delegated authority, including large, complex, and jumbo cases.
• Offer limited production underwriting support without managing daily case flow or operational queues.
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant work experience is mandatory.
• A minimum of 10 years in life underwriting is required.
• Proven underwriting signing authority of $20M, with experience in complex case design and advanced sales.
• Extensive technical knowledge in life underwriting risk assessment, complex case evaluation, and underwriting standards.
• Strong capability to mentor, coach, and enhance underwriters’ technical judgment and consistency.
• Experience in supporting underwriting training, quality assessments, and governance initiatives.
• Comprehensive understanding of life insurance products (Term, Whole Life, IUL, VUL) and advanced underwriting considerations.
• Acquainted with underwriting tools, evidence sources, and emerging technologies, including AI-enabled features.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with senior underwriting leaders while functioning without direct operational control.
• Excellent judgment, communication, and influence capabilities.
• Preferred professional designations include ACS, ALU, FLMI, FALU, or CLU, or progress towards one or more designations.
• A Master’s Degree or MBA is preferred.
