📋 Description

• Oversee Zillow's strategy for state and local government affairs across various regions and legislative landscapes.

• Convert enterprise business priorities into cohesive state advocacy strategies.

• Assess campaign priorities, allocate resources effectively, and ensure seamless execution throughout regional portfolios.

• Direct intricate legislative and regulatory campaigns from conception to implementation.

• Support regional leaders in navigating shifting political landscapes.

• Mentor, coach, and nurture regional government affairs leaders across diverse locations.

• Enhance organizational capabilities through talent development, succession planning, and scalable operational practices.

• Establish and refine operational rhythms, governance structures, planning processes, and reporting systems.

• Foster improved coordination among Government Affairs, Public Policy, Legal, Communications, Product, Economics, and executive leadership.

• Manage external lobbyists, consultants, and strategic advisors across various jurisdictions.

• Track legislative, regulatory, and political changes within key markets.

• Identify potential risks and opportunities influencing product strategy, market growth, consumer trust, or business operations.

• Deliver recommendations and executive-level briefings.

• Collaborate with teams across Public Policy, Legal, Product, business leadership, Communications, Public Affairs, and Federal Government Affairs.


⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 12 years of experience in government relations, public policy, legislative affairs, or a related field.

• Extensive experience advising senior executives on intricate policy and regulatory issues.

• Proven track record in developing and implementing integrated government relations or public affairs strategies that align with business or organizational goals.

• Demonstrated success in cultivating relationships with legislators, regulators, associations, and advocacy partners in highly regulated or politically intricate settings.

• Experience leading cross-functional policy or regulatory initiatives with responsibility for results and communication at the executive level.

• Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

• Preferred experience in technology, marketplace, housing, fintech, mortgage, real estate, or heavily regulated consumer platform industries.

• Desired background in leading regional government affairs operations within a Fortune 500 company, trade association, or similar organization.

• Familiarity with housing policy, listings, rentals, consumer finance, AI policy, competition policy, or digital marketplace regulations is preferred.

• Experience in building or scaling government affairs teams during periods of company growth is a plus.

• Strong enterprise thinking and business acumen.

• Excellent political judgment.

• Ability to strategically prioritize and allocate resources.

• Skills in organizational leadership and team development.

• Capacity for executive influence without needing formal authority.

• Experience in cross-functional collaboration.

• Commitment to operational excellence and disciplined execution.

• Ability to adapt in complex, rapidly changing environments.
