This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Serve as the representative for AbbVie’s Illinois headquarters, fostering strategic connections with state and local government, economic development, and community stakeholders.

• Develop and implement engagement strategies at the state and local levels that align with business goals and enhance AbbVie’s footprint in Illinois.

• Establish lobbying and advocacy initiatives that influence state legislative and regulatory matters.

• Interact directly with policymakers, regulators, third-party organizations, and coalitions.

• Evaluate political, legislative, and regulatory environments to advise on risks, opportunities, and AbbVie’s strategic direction.

• Build and maintain relationships with governors, lieutenant governors, attorneys general, state legislators, and local officials.

• Assist with US site selection efforts by assessing opportunities and facilitating regional engagement.

• Collaborate with the US Strategic Alliances Director to provide state legislative and political expertise and advocacy strategies.

• Work in conjunction with Federal Government Affairs, US Policy & Analytics, Commercial, Legal, Market Access, Corporate Affairs, and regional and district managers.

• Formulate legislative, regulatory, policy, and political solutions that align with regional commercial goals.

• Represent AbbVie at state legislative and political functions, as well as within trade association task forces and coalitions.

• Create engagement strategies for national organizations influencing state policy and political initiatives.

• Coordinate with Federal Government Affairs regarding state and national politics, policy, lawmakers, and associations.

• Recruit and manage external consultants within the region.

• Create and manage the regional state government affairs budget.

• Ensure adherence to lobbying, campaign finance, political contributions, and registration obligations.


⛳️ Requirements

• 8–10 years of experience in lobbying, public administration, political party involvement, legislative staff roles, or similar fields.

• Preferred experience in the healthcare sector or another heavily regulated industry.

• Strong executive presence with the capacity to influence and navigate complex political environments.

• Capability to grasp intricate policy and legislative matters and devise innovative strategies.

• In-depth understanding of significant state health programs, including Medicaid.

• Familiarity with state finance and appropriations processes.

• Insight into the dynamics of the private healthcare marketplace, encompassing insurance, drug benefit plans, PBMs, pharmacies, employers, and consumers.

• Ability to operate independently and exhibit sound business judgment.

• Proficiency in formulating and executing comprehensive Government Affairs strategies.

• Strong analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal, organizational, and communication abilities.

• Proficiency in persuasive and clear verbal and written communication.

• Attributes of flexibility, adaptability, resourcefulness, creativity, and attention to detail.

• Proven track record of working under deadlines and collaboratively within a dynamic organizational setting.

• Expertise in developing PowerPoint presentations and simplifying complex policy issues into clear internal documents.

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as healthcare administration, political science, public administration, or policy.

• Advanced degree is preferred.

• Comprehensive knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications.

• Willingness to travel domestically up to 40 percent.

• Established relationships with state and local policymakers across Illinois.
