📋 Description

• Act as the representative for AbbVie’s headquarters in Illinois, fostering strategic connections with state and local government, economic development entities, and community stakeholders.

• Formulate lobbying and advocacy strategies for state legislative and regulatory initiatives.

• Analyze political and public policy landscapes and provide recommendations on AbbVie’s approach.

• Serve as AbbVie’s representative concerning legislation and regulations that impact the company.

• Build and maintain relationships with governors, lieutenant governors, attorneys general, state legislators, local officials, regulators, and external stakeholders.

• Assist U.S. site selection efforts by assessing opportunities and facilitating regional engagement.

• Work collaboratively with the U.S. Strategic Alliances Director to provide expertise on state legislative and political matters.

• Collaborate with Federal Government Affairs, U.S. Policy & Analytics, Commercial, Legal, Market Access, Corporate Affairs, along with regional and district managers.

• Create legislative, regulatory, policy, and political solutions that align with commercial goals.

• Represent AbbVie at state legislative and political functions, and lead trade association task forces and coalitions.

• Develop engagement strategies for national organizations influencing state policy and political initiatives.

• Coordinate with Federal Government Affairs on both state and national political dynamics, policy, lawmakers, and associations.

• Recruit and manage external consultants within the region.

• Establish and oversee the budget for regional state government affairs.

• Ensure compliance with lobbying and political contribution regulations, including necessary registrations.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of eight to ten years of experience in lobbying, public administration, political party involvement, legislative staff roles, or similar fields.

• Preferred experience in the healthcare sector or another highly regulated industry.

• Strong executive presence with the ability to influence and navigate through political environments.

• Demonstrated capability to comprehend complex policy and legislative matters and formulate innovative strategies.

• Comprehensive understanding of major state health programs, including Medicaid.

• Familiarity with state finance and appropriations processes.

• Insight into the dynamics of the private healthcare marketplace, encompassing insurance, drug benefit plans, PBMs, pharmacies, employers, and consumers.

• Ability to work independently while exercising sound business judgment.

• Proficient in devising and executing comprehensive Government Affairs strategies.

• Strong analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal, organizational, persuasive speaking, and writing skills.

• Traits of flexibility, adaptability, resourcefulness, creativity, attention to detail, and capability to meet deadlines.

• Expertise in creating PowerPoint presentations and simplifying complex policy issues into understandable content.

• Capability to collaborate within a dynamic organizational setting.

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as healthcare administration, political science, public administration, or policy.

• Extensive knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications.

• Established relationships with state and local policymakers throughout Illinois.
