This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
• Directly oversee and mentor a team of 10–20 phone-based Small Business Banking Consultants and Relationship Specialists.
• Emphasize new business growth, credit quality, and risk management.
• Build relationships with commercial customers, identifying lending and deposit opportunities.
• Collaborate with Consumer Banking Leadership, retail branches, external Centers of Influence, and contacts.
• Enhance business optimization, efficiency, and credit automation tools.
• Provide insights into pricing and market competitiveness based on experience and research.
• Supervise audit, compliance, and regulatory issues within the department.
• Foster Small Business account relationships while ensuring adherence to strong credit quality standards.
• Recruit, train, and oversee Small Business Banking Consultant personnel.
• Align client engagement, advisory, and sales strategies with Flagstar’s core purpose, mission, and values through training, coaching, and call monitoring.
• Manage sales performance and production across various product categories, client retention, deepening relationships, and revenue enhancement.
• Track performance metrics across multiple objectives.
• Supervise weekly sales activities, including sales calls, referrals, pipeline management, and staff commitments.
• Execute partner introductions and create tailored solutions.
• Address escalated issues and manage complex or challenging relationships and transactions.
• Guide the team through ECC (Energizing Client Conversations), covering implementation, mastery, documentation, participation, monitoring, and evaluation.
• Oversee talent management functions such as hiring, performance evaluations, staff development/training, disciplinary actions, and succession planning.
• Undertake special projects and other duties as necessary.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• Bachelor’s Degree (4 years or equivalent) in business, finance, or a related field.
• Over 10 years of experience in business banking/commercial/small business lending in production or credit roles.
• More than 7 years of experience in sales/client management with small business or business banking clients.
• At least 5 years of experience in sales performance management within the financial services sector.
• Expert-level knowledge of business financial management, the cash flow cycle, and financial solutions including credit, treasury, and personal financial management.
• Comprehensive understanding of the business banking sales process and cycle.
• Extensive knowledge of business financial statements and tax returns as they relate to business credit applications.
• Proven ability to manage and coach phone-based sales teams.
• Familiarity with and experience in SBA programs preferred.
• Some travel may be necessary.
• Capability to meet moderate physical demands including standing, sitting, walking, driving, or occasional lifting.
