This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Lead, guide, and mentor a team of six payroll tax professionals.
• Manage payroll tax filings, payments, and compliance activities for legal entities throughout the United States and Canada.
• Act as the primary contact for regulatory agencies concerning payroll tax audits, inquiries, notices, and compliance issues.
• Collaborate with the SVP of Accounting and peer leaders to develop and implement payroll tax strategies.
• Identify and execute process improvements that enhance scalability, accuracy, efficiency, and customer service.
• Supervise year-end payroll tax processing, including W-2 distribution, required reporting, system updates, and regulatory filings.
• Establish and refine payroll tax compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Review payroll tax account reconciliations and oversee the resolution of tax liabilities, credits, refunds, and correspondence with agencies.
• Ensure proper documentation, knowledge transfer, and cross-training within the payroll tax function.
• Stay informed on legislative and regulatory developments, and communicate their business impacts and necessary actions.
• Work collaboratively with Payroll Operations, Product Management, Technology, and Finance on system enhancements and compliance modifications.
• Develop business requirements and participate in the testing, implementation, and validation of payroll tax system improvements.
• Serve as the payroll tax subject matter expert for enterprise initiatives, acquisitions, system implementations, and strategic projects.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, auditors, government agencies, and internal stakeholders.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive payroll tax experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership position managing payroll tax compliance functions.
• In-depth knowledge of U.S. and Canadian payroll tax regulations, filings, and compliance requirements.
• Experience in managing complex payroll tax operations within large, multi-state, and multi-jurisdictional organizations.
• Proven track record of successfully leading teams, developing talent, and driving organizational change.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to thrive in a high-volume, deadline-driven, and rapidly changing environment.
• Expert-level proficiency in computer applications, including Excel, Word, and MS Outlook.
• Practical experience with AI tools relevant to payroll tax, including specific tool usage, workflow integration, and measurable business impact.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
• CPA, CPP, or FPC certification is preferred.
• Familiarity with enterprise payroll and financial systems; experience with Oracle Financials is a plus.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities, with the capacity to influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
• Prior experience in the entertainment, media, or production industry is preferred.
