Director of Web Platform – Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Lead, cultivate, and mentor a hybrid web engineering team comprising both internal and external members.

• Establish technical direction, engineering standards, and operational methodologies for the web engineering division.

• Strategically plan and prioritize development capacity in alignment with business and digital objectives.

• Provide hands-on technical leadership, resolve delivery obstacles, guide architectural choices, and enhance engineering quality.

• Collaborate with Brand, Design, Content, Growth, Product Marketing, and Technology teams to craft cohesive digital experiences.

• Oversee external development partners and specialist vendors.

• Take ownership of the technical strategy and roadmap for websites and web platforms.

• Supervise architecture, development, code quality, documentation, security, accessibility, and reliability.

• Define scalable, secure, high-performance, and maintainable web architectures.

• Direct technology decisions and investigate AI-enabled web experiences.

• Lead the global consolidation of websites into a modern headless WordPress architecture aimed for implementation in late 2026/early 2027.

• Make technical decisions regarding architecture, migration, integrations, governance, and scalability.

• Establish the post-launch engineering model and roadmap, focusing on performance, resilience, governance, and continuous evolution.

• Define and track KPIs for performance, conversion, SEO, reliability, and user experience.

• Utilize data and insights to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure that technology investments yield tangible business value.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in leading web engineering, web technology, or digital development teams.

• Proven track record in managing and developing engineering teams successfully.

• Experience in owning complex websites or digital platforms across various brands, markets, or technological environments.

• Strong comprehension of modern web architecture, CMS platforms, and headless methodologies.

• Proficiency in WordPress, AEM, AWS, Next.js, and TypeScript is essential.

• Demonstrated experience in leading significant website transformations, migrations, consolidations, or platform initiatives.

• Deep understanding of web performance, SEO, accessibility, security, and reliability.

• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and bridge communication between technical, creative, marketing, and commercial perspectives.

• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to link technology decisions to quantifiable business results.

• Proven success in developing talent and fostering a high-performing engineering culture.

• Judicious in knowing when to lead through others and when to engage directly to eliminate delivery obstacles, guide technical decisions, or enhance engineering quality.
