This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Provide senior-level technical and organizational guidance for SANS’ Cloud Platform Engineering team.
• Oversee core platform services related to identity, product administration, and entitlements.
• Direct DevOps tools and services, website engineering, as well as courseware and platform orchestration.
• Act as the engineering executive for Project CORE, which focuses on the modernization of SANS’ enrollment and entitlement processes.
• Manage individual contributors and engineering teams through leadership roles.
• Take ownership of shared engineering platforms, standards, tooling, and vendor partnerships.
• Propel architecture, delivery, and cross-functional collaboration to enhance enrollment, entitlement, and administrative systems.
• Collaborate with Product, Operations, Sales, Finance, and other engineering directors.
• Transform business strategy into secure, scalable, and maintainable systems.
• Mentor and lead engineering teams effectively.
• Uphold engineering standards and best practices, including CI/CD, code quality, and secure development protocols.
• Facilitate governance of architecture across teams.
• Strategically plan and balance engineering resources against evolving business priorities.
• Communicate trade-offs to stakeholders clearly.
• Oversee modernization initiatives from start to finish, including architecture, cross-team commitments, delivery planning, and executive reporting.
• Guide the modernization of enrollment, entitlement, identity, and product services.
• Integrate platforms with enterprise systems and phase out legacy tools.
• Assess engineering effectiveness and promote ongoing improvement.
• Advocate for incident management discipline.
• Distribute regular engineering updates to stakeholders.
• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in software engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience in leading engineering teams.
• A minimum of 3 years managing through engineering managers or team leads.
• Proven success in leading a large, multi-team modernization or systems integration initiative from design through to delivery.
• Strong technical expertise with prior hands-on development experience.
• Capability to guide architectural decisions across services, integrations, and data flows.
• Familiarity with contemporary AI development strategies and best practices.
• Experience with enterprise business systems and integrations, such as Salesforce/Service Cloud, identity providers, and payment/order management systems.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and DevOps methodologies, including AWS, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience in managing vendor relationships, software procurement, licensing, and budget oversight.
• Proficiency with Agile methodologies, SDLC, and modern development standards and practices.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce executive-level reports and coordinate cross-functionally.
• Unrestricted authorization to work in the USA; visa sponsorship is not available.
• Preferred: experience in educational technology, training delivery platforms, or certification systems.
• Preferred: experience in facilitating architecture governance.
• Preferred: familiarity with PingIdentity, Entra ID, and entitlement modeling.
• Preferred: experience in integrating AI-assisted development tools and overseeing their safe, cost-effective implementation.
