This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Drive a comprehensive marketing and public affairs strategy that aligns with the organization's programmatic, policy, and revenue goals.
• Maintain ongoing 30-, 60-, and 90-day assessments of communication needs, opportunities, deadlines, and resources.
• Convert organizational priorities into actionable communication plans and recommendations for senior leadership.
• Oversee issues management, rapid response, and crisis communication efforts.
• Cultivate relationships with national, trade, policy, and regional journalists.
• Formulate media strategies and supervise the creation of press releases, statements, op-eds, commentary, pitches, and other public-facing materials.
• Develop and manage strategies for speakers and experts.
• Prepare the CEO and executives for media appearances, panels, speeches, and other external engagements.
• Direct digital strategies across social media channels, email, and website presence.
• Supervise editorial calendars, content development, audience growth, and channel performance.
• Lead the planning of campaigns, announcements, events, reports, and organizational initiatives.
• Manage the Marketing & Public Affairs team, including staff, consultants, vendors, scopes, budgets, and deliverables.
• Collaborate with Programs, Public Policy & Applied Research, Business Development, Finance, and senior leadership across functions.
• Assist in fundraising, sponsorship, partnership opportunities, donor stewardship, and partner visibility initiatives.
• Establish performance metrics, evaluate outcomes, manage paid media, and enhance campaigns.
• Generate reports for senior leadership and the Board.
• Engage in organizational planning, goal setting, feedback, and performance processes.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public affairs, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Around 7 or more years of progressive experience in marketing, public affairs, media relations, strategic communications, or a related field.
• Proven experience managing staff, consultants, vendors, or complex cross-functional projects.
• Experience in developing and implementing communication or marketing strategies that enhance visibility, audience engagement, or participation.
• Media relations expertise, including outreach to reporters, pitching, executive preparation, and the development of public-facing materials.
• Strong knowledge of digital marketing, social media strategy, audience growth, and performance analytics.
• Experience in crafting editorial and campaign plans while managing multiple deadlines and production requirements.
• Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills tailored to diverse audiences and platforms.
• Ability to translate complex information into clear and accessible communications.
• Capacity to provide recommendations, articulate trade-offs, and respectfully challenge decisions when professional judgment indicates an alternative approach.
• Competence in managing budgets and external resources judiciously.
• Experience working effectively across departments and with senior executives.
• Familiarity with CRM, digital engagement, and analytics tools.
• Experience with Salesforce is advantageous.
• Background in nonprofit, government, financial services, economic policy, or another mission-driven environment is beneficial but not mandatory.
• Supervisory responsibility required; manages staff and external consultants.
• Remote work opportunity.
• Collaboration during core hours of Eastern Time.
• Travel requirement of approximately 20% to 25%.
