Director of Marketing Events – Digital Communications

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Lead AFT’s branding initiatives, marketing strategy, and national paid media campaigns.

• Oversee the Marketing Division.

• Manage national websites, email, social media, and outreach channels alongside communication specialists.

• Implement integrated marketing and digital strategies to broaden reach, enhance stakeholder engagement, and boost supporter growth.

• Spearhead multi-channel campaigns, signature engagement initiatives, and creative content production.

• Supervise team performance, metrics, and marketing best practices.

• Design, create, and enhance content for national distribution.

• Uphold, refine, and enforce AFT brand standards.

• Assess brand health with key audiences and in comparison to competitors.

• Direct supporter acquisition strategies and align cross-departmental tactics to grow the database.

• Track competitive, market, and political developments to optimize communication effectiveness.

• Encourage internal and cross-divisional collaboration through guidance, coaching, and relevant expertise.

• Partner with Directors and Deputy Directors on cross-divisional initiatives.

• Identify and advocate for initiatives that promote organizational growth and enhance effectiveness, efficiency, quality, and engagement.

• Lead the execution of a national Communications strategy that aligns with divisional priorities.

• Ensure the generation of written and other materials for targeted audiences.

• Work with the National Communications team to ensure messaging consistency.

• Develop messaging and storytelling opportunities across various mediums, formats, and regions.

• Establish new communication channels and expand effective ones to connect with new audiences.

• Supervise the Social Media & Marketing Manager and Marketing Coordinator.


⛳️ Requirements

• Advanced degree (master’s degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or a related field) preferred.

• 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in national PR, communications, or marketing, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.

• Proven expertise in marketing, communications, advertising, and media relations.

• Portfolio examples and published work samples.

• Exceptional communication skills.

• Strong organizational abilities.

• Experience in leading and managing teams, including providing guidance, supporting staff development, and fostering a collaborative work atmosphere.

• Advanced understanding of social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook) trends, analytics, and planning tools.

• Experience with email marketing, online fundraising, event registration, and digital advocacy platforms in a nonprofit or cause marketing context.

• Experience directing websites, including building new sites, updating webpages, creating workflows, and planning staff resources.

• Excellent organizational and project management skills.

• Knowledge and hands-on experience with Canva, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator are required.

• Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends.

• Willingness to travel domestically for approximately 4 to 5 trips per year.
