Director of Manufacturing Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Oversee the scaling of manufacturing operations across both internal and external production facilities.

• Manage aspects of manufacturing capacity, delivery timelines, and cost efficiency.

• Achieve manufacturing ramp-ups and margin growth for key strategic products.

• Design and standardize production specifications, facility layouts, and material flows throughout production sites.

• Take ownership of the manufacturing footprint strategy, which includes make-vs-buy assessments, investments in new facilities, and business cases for insourcing.

• Lead the integration of new operational processes.

• Develop and uphold technical production standards related to manufacturing needs, product launches, process redesigns, and capacity modeling.

• Analyze capacity, standardize requirements, identify bottlenecks, balance production lines, and optimize material flows.

• Create and oversee structured programs for continuous improvement.

• Formulate business cases and spearhead the implementation of automation, digital, and AI technologies.

• Build, manage, and mentor a team responsible for conducting time-and-motion studies, value stream mapping, capacity modeling, waste identification, and process enhancements.

• Propel change management initiatives from the operational level to senior leadership.

• Report directly to the Vice President of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of relevant progressive experience with a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or 8 years of relevant progressive experience with a Master's degree in a related field; or a High School Diploma (or equivalent) alongside 14 years of relevant progressive experience.

• Proven history of delivering operational and financial results in Aerospace & Defense or similar complex manufacturing settings.

• Experience in leading capacity modeling, simulation, value stream mapping, time-and-motion studies, and establishing standard work procedures.

• Background in business case development for capital investments, make-vs-buy decisions, or footprint strategies.

• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, six sigma methodologies, and operational leadership development programs.

• Excellent communication abilities and a knack for quickly building trust with both front-line workers and senior executives.

• Capability to create order from ambiguity and to act decisively with incomplete data.

• Willingness and ability to travel 51–75% as required by the position.
