Director of Finance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage the financial model related to the contract backlog, turning insights into actionable decisions for leadership.

• Lead long-term planning and budgeting for a rapidly expanding hardware enterprise.

• Oversee pricing strategies, safeguard profit margins, and identify any margin losses.

• Manage working capital amidst extended hardware lead times and government payment schedules.

• Anticipate fluctuations in cash flow and prepare proactively.

• Serve as a strategic advisor to the founders regarding business strategies.

• Supervise the outsourced accounting operations and maintain the relationship with the CPA.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in finance related to defense or government contracting, including knowledge of contract modifications and the specific impacts of awards, invoices, and payments.

• Background in strategy and planning rather than controllership.

• Experience in a hardware business where inventory management, lead times, and working capital are crucial for cash flow.

• Capability to articulate and present a business perspective.

• Comfort in functioning as the finance department within a rapidly growing company.

• No minimum years of experience required.

• No specific degree needed.

• Preferred: Experience as Director of Finance, Head of Finance, VP of Finance, or in senior FP&A roles at a growth-stage defense or national-security firm.

• Preferred: Experience in government contracting finance with a prime or mid-tier defense manufacturer.

• Preferred: Background in investment banking or private equity focused on aerospace, defense, or industrial sectors, along with relevant operational experience.

• Not suitable for: Current CFOs; profiles centered solely on controllership and CPA roles; candidates with commercial or software financial planning experience lacking exposure to government contracts.

• NDA required prior to revealing the company's identity and full role details.

• Candidates must be located near a major US airport.

• Availability for travel to Las Vegas and Virginia as needed, often on short notice.
