Director of Development Strategy – Operations

📋 Description

• Oversee the core engine driving New Energy Nexus's global fundraising and business development initiatives.

• Report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

• Create a dynamic, prioritized development strategy informed by proposal outcomes, discussions with funders, market insights, and organizational learnings.

• Consolidate funder intelligence into clear fundraising priorities.

• Identify key focus areas across programs and regions based on funder interest, pipeline strength, and organizational goals.

• Maintain oversight of the funding pipeline categorized by funder, program, chapter, and stage.

• Highlight pipeline risks, gaps, and issues regarding unrestricted versus restricted funding.

• Convert strategy into actionable guidance on opportunity prioritization, proposal adjustments, and team investment.

• Provide advice to the CEO and program leads on funding strategies.

• Lead and develop the global platform-level development team, including recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and performance management.

• Transform strategy into rolling team work plans with clear ownership, resources, and timelines.

• Foster collaboration among platform staff, country leaders, fundraisers, and program leads.

• Manage fundraising operating rhythms, including pipeline reviews, proposal coordination, and prioritization meetings.

• Coordinate multi-country and multi-program proposals, integrating contributions into cohesive narratives and budgets.

• Build and maintain a central repository of fundraising materials.

• Draft and update funder and conference presentations using modular content.

• Collaborate with the Chief Communications Officer on messaging, program updates, and brand standards.

• Equip country leads and fundraisers with tools, templates, frameworks, and support.

• Establish feedback mechanisms among engagement, strategy, priorities, and planning.

• Manage fundraising CRM and pipeline-tracking systems, ensuring data integrity and consistent usage.

• Generate regular and ad hoc leadership reports and dashboards on pipeline health, funder trends, and fundraising targets.

• Standardize proposal, reporting, and stewardship templates and processes.

• Monitor outcomes against strategies and refine them as data evolves.

• Ensure timely completion of fundraising protocols and internal and external reporting to consistent quality standards.

• Provide clear visibility into global pipeline priorities, risks, and opportunities.

• Develop an effective operating rhythm and enhance coordination across platform, country, and program teams.

• Establish consistent practices for CRM and pipeline management.

• Create an easily accessible library of standardized fundraising materials and tools.

• Implement feedback loops between funder intelligence, performance, and development strategy.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising/development, development strategy, and/or development operations.

• A minimum of 5 years of direct experience in nonprofit or philanthropic fundraising.

• In-depth practical understanding of the fundraising cycle, funder decision-making, proposal development, and stewardship.

• Strong history of leading complex philanthropic grant proposals, ideally involving multiple programs, regions, or internal stakeholders.

• Proven experience in translating frontline or field-level input into strategy and prioritization.

• Demonstrated experience in people management, including coaching, performance management, priority setting, and team capacity allocation.

• Experience in leading a distributed team is strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with operating in a global or matrix organization and coordinating stakeholders without direct reporting lines.

• Proficient in using CRM and pipeline data for fundraising decisions, forecasting, and team management.

• Knowledge of the climate, clean energy, or entrepreneurship support sectors is a strong advantage.

• Experience conducting focused funder-market or landscape research is beneficial.

• Structured, analytical thinker with the ability to synthesize qualitative field input into actionable recommendations.

• Demonstrates adaptability, a self-starter attitude, and a growth mindset.

• High emotional intelligence, ability to build trust, cultural sensitivity, and curiosity.

• Exceptional written communication skills.

• Strong project management capability.

• Comfortable serving as an internal partner rather than the primary external face of fundraising.

• Ability to collaborate with a global team across time zones, with occasional travel for internal meetings and conferences.

• Proficient in database/CRM management, Google Workspace, and Slack.

• Foundational knowledge of global clean energy and climate change solutions and ecosystems, or a willingness to self-learn.

• Some meetings may occur outside of regular working hours.
