This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Create a comprehensive map of California organizations to establish a pipeline of potential partners.

• Collaborate with the newsroom to determine the communities each project aims to engage and prioritize outreach efforts.

• Build and sustain trust with partners, including in-person meetings throughout California.

• Design and facilitate training sessions on Digital Democracy and other relevant tools.

• Produce materials for partners' newsletters and their social media platforms.

• Co-host events alongside partner organizations and work in tandem with the events team.

• Monitor and report on partner engagement, documenting activities, feedback, and audience reach.

• Collect partner feedback to enhance support strategies.

• Represent CalMatters at conferences, gatherings, and community events across California.

• Report directly to the Chief Impact Officer and collaborate closely with the Director of Partnerships.


⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of pertinent experience in building and managing relationships with a diverse array of organizations.

• Background in community organizing, nonprofit partnerships, government relations, coalition-building, business development, sales, or similar fields.

• Openness to initiating relationships from the ground up.

• Capacity to fully understand a data-driven tool well enough to teach it; a technical background is not necessary.

• Comfort in designing and leading training sessions.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Skill in explaining tools and journalism concepts to audiences unfamiliar with journalism.

• Capability to navigate requests while upholding CalMatters' commitment to nonpartisanship and journalistic ethics.

• Experience in establishing and monitoring meaningful success metrics, including data maintained by partners.

• A genuine interest in California's civic life, government accountability, or community engagement.

• Proven ability to work independently in a remote-first, distributed team environment.

• Willingness to travel regularly throughout California.

• A college degree is not a mandatory requirement.

• Preferred: Experience in a newsroom or understanding of the journalism production process.

• Preferred: Familiarity with CalMatters.

• Preferred: Established relationships with California community organizations, civic groups, or regional networks.

• Preferred: Proficiency in Spanish or another language commonly spoken in California communities.

• Preferred: Experience in public-facing event organization or co-hosting.
