Director – Network Technologies

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.

📋 Description

• Act as the ultimate technical decision-maker under the VP for WAN, LAN, data center, cloud interconnect, and network security edge architecture.

• Manage the multi-year network architecture roadmap and technology selection process.

• Lead network design reviews and authorize significant changes, including BGP policy, EVPN/VXLAN, SD-WAN/SASE, Equinix Fabric, AWS Direct Connect, optical/WAVE circuits, and route diversity strategies.

• Develop and maintain technical standards, reference architectures, golden configurations, and HLD/LLD design documentation.

• Ensure that designs are feasible and can be operated by the engineering team.

• Collaborate with the Director of Cybersecurity & Network Systems, where this role focuses on technical decisions while the peer organization manages staffing and operations.

• Oversee network observability architecture utilizing Kentik, which includes flow analytics, synthetic testing, BGP monitoring, and capacity planning.

• Serve as the senior technical point of escalation for complex incidents, lead post-incident architectural reviews, and promote systemic solutions.

• Represent network architecture to executives, enterprise customers, auditors, and third-party evaluators.

• Ensure designs comply with NIST 800-171, SOC 2, and ITAR/EAR requirements.

• Collaborate with compliance and legal teams on handling export-controlled technical data.

• Lead technical network workstreams for integration readiness, due diligence, and assessments by third parties.

• Assess emerging technologies, conduct proofs of concept, and influence vendor technical strategies and roadmaps.

• Provide technical insights for budget and contract considerations.

• Mentor senior engineers on advanced routing, fabric design, and design methodologies.

• Travel to headquarters, gateway sites, data centers, and vendor/customer locations as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Possession of an active CCIE certification is mandatory (preferably in Enterprise Infrastructure or Service Provider track).

• A second expert-level certification (an additional CCIE track, CCDE, JNCIE, or AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty) is highly desirable.

• Over 15 years of progressive experience in network engineering.

• At least 7 years in a principal, distinguished, or chief-architect level design role with proven design authority at scale.

• Expert-level knowledge of BGP: policy design, route reflection, communities, traffic engineering, and multi-homing at scale.

• Extensive experience with EVPN/VXLAN data center fabrics and contemporary spine/leaf design.

• Practical experience with SD-WAN/SASE platforms; Cato Networks is strongly preferred.

• Experience with cloud interconnect solutions, including Equinix Fabric and AWS Direct Connect.

• Familiarity with carrier services, optical/WAVE circuits, circuit diversity analysis, and carrier technical escalation.

• Experience in designing under NIST 800-171, SOC 2, and ITAR/EAR compliance standards.

• Proven ability to influence across teams without direct authority.

• Proficiency in network observability, including Kentik or similar tools, NetFlow/sFlow analytics, synthetic testing, BGP monitoring, and SLA-driven capacity planning.

• Strong communication skills with executives and the ability to justify architectural decisions to VP/C-suite audiences.

• Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR/EAR due to access to export-controlled technical data.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

• Familiarity with NetSuite is a plus.

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

• Standard office environment.

• Willingness to travel to company headquarters, gateway sites, data centers, and vendor/customer locations as required.

• Availability for occasional after-hours work may be necessary for major incidents and maintenance windows.
