Director, Intellectual Property

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define and continuously enhance Reddit’s global IP litigation strategy in alignment with product roadmaps, market positioning, risk profile, and long-term business objectives.

• Manage Reddit’s worldwide IP portfolio, ensuring it aligns with business priorities and competitive differentiation goals.

• Develop and refine Reddit’s international litigation and strategic approach to emerging and novel IP issues.

• Convert complex competitive IP landscapes into actionable strategic insights.

• Provide guidance to cross-functional partners and Legal team members regarding copyright, trademark, patent, and trade secret issues.

• Work collaboratively with engineering, product, legal teams, and external counsel to mitigate IP risks, safeguard Reddit’s brand, business, and innovations, and expand its patent portfolio.

• Exercise sound judgment, navigate risks, and address internal and external challenges related to Reddit’s IP matters.

⛳️ Requirements

• JD with a strong academic background and a current license to practice in a state bar in the United States.

• Over 10 years of experience as an IP litigator.

• Ideally, a combination of training from a large law firm and in-house experience at a tech or fast-paced company.

• Robust understanding of copyright, patent, trademark, and trade secret law.

• Capability to lead a diverse range of IP matters and proactively collaborate with various teams across Reddit.

• Proven success in navigating complex and emerging copyright litigation challenges.

• Experience in patent litigation, licensing negotiations, and portfolio development.

• Strong preference for expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning, web technologies, social products, technologies and platforms, and/or the mobile sector.

• Ability to think strategically at both a high level and in detail to drive complex problem-solving and generate innovative, business-oriented solutions.

• Skill in assessing risk, differentiating business from legal risk, and clearly communicating it to executive, business, and technical audiences.

• Exceptional communication, negotiation, collaboration, relationship-building, prioritization, and adaptability skills.

• Passion for and active use of Reddit.
