Director, Individual Giving

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Oversee and expand a portfolio of 100–150 major gift prospects, including members of the NPR Foundation Board of Trustees.

• Formulate and implement annual solicitation strategies for each prospect.

• Cultivate relationships, solicit contributions, and manage donor stewardship throughout the prospect lifecycle.

• Secure gifts ranging from high six- to seven-figure amounts.

• Generate over $5M in new revenue each fiscal year.

• Utilize moves management tools to monitor activities, assess pipeline health, and track progress toward revenue targets.

• Collaborate with local Member stations on joint donor prospects.

• Work alongside the Planned Giving team to explore blended gift opportunities.

• Provide updates on activities, progress, and strategies to the Senior Director of Major Gifts.

• Prepare donor proposals, impact reports, and briefing documents.

• Partner with Donor Operations, Donor Communications, and Donor Relations teams.

• Ensure accurate donor information is maintained in Salesforce.

• Adhere to fundraising best practices and uphold ethical standards.

• Contribute to development projects and initiatives.

• Conduct 20–40 discovery qualifications each year to identify new donors and enhance the portfolio.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.

• A minimum of 5 years of frontline fundraising experience in a large, complex organization.

• Proven success in cultivating and securing six-figure gifts and pledges.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.

• Capability to create compelling proposals and conduct impactful donor meetings.

• Advanced interpersonal skills.

• Professionalism in working with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior leadership, board members, Member stations, and external partners.

• Strong relationship-building aptitude with high-net-worth donors.

• Proficiency in developing and implementing innovative fundraising strategies and moves management.

• Commitment to ethical, data-driven decision-making practices.

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet overlapping deadlines.

• Self-motivated in a remote work environment.

• Willingness to travel and conduct both face-to-face and virtual meetings.
